Chapter 20:

"Oh my god...was that.."

"That's... not...Greyson," Germaine spluttered.

"It sounded much too...much too feminine," Ella breathed.

My throat tightened, and a knot formed in my stomach. "We need to check it out, or apprehension will consume me."

Dread brought tears to my eyes. The scream was a crushing blow to my lungs and a sword to my heart. The sound of it continued ringing in my ears as I pictured his twinkling eyes - the eyes that captivated me, while I was cradled in his arms on that fateful stage.

I realised I cared for Greyson. I was worried for him, and not just the way one feared for any neighbour meeting an impending danger. I was worried for him because his pain felt like it was mine. I knew I wouldn't be able to live without him - not after he changed my life so much within the last 24 hours alone. Platonic or romantic, I wanted him by my side forever. I really liked him.

Never once have I agreed so readily with the saying "You only cherish someone when you're about to lose that someone."

We took off at top speed round the corner.

"THERE!" I called, pointing at three figures.

"NO, GO!!" A guy screamed, running towards me.

What? I thought that sounded like Greyson. I don't understand.

"GOOO!!!!" He screamed again. "DANGER YOU HEAR??!" so it was Greyson. He grabbed my hand and ran, Germ and Ella following close behind.

My fingers tightened around his, thanking my lucky stars that the scream was never his.

As far as I could remember, we had turned a million bends and dawn was starting to break.

We finally collapsed in front of my house huffing and puffing.

"How...did...we...get here??! How did you know the way?" Ella barely managed, between heavy breaths.

"I know I have a lot to explain but we're all tired and we should get some shut-eye first. I'll tell you everything tomorrow okay?" Greyson said. I could see the eye bags beneath his eyes already.

I felt a splatter on my head.

"It's raining..." I turned to Germaine and Ella. They looked like a wreck, and I was no better. My hair was a horrible mess and I knew my face was a tragedy.

"Oh Greyson," I whispered, "Thank god you're fine. What the hell was that scream? You scared me to death!" I stepped closer to him. He reached out and pulled me to lean against his chest. I began to sob, relief finally flooding through me. "You have loads to explain okay?"

"Okay," He murmured into my ear, caressing my hair, in a bid to calm my heightened nerves.

It was as if we were the only ones in the entire world when he leant down to my wet face. Our lips were so close, I could feel it moving against mine as he spoke. "Sonia, I'll never leave you. I've realised how much you mean to me."

I wished he would kiss me - right there in the pouring rain.

Then he did.

It was sweet and made me feel a way that I've never before felt. The way our lips fitted perfectly made me think it was as if we were made for each other.

"Dawwwhh," Germaine cried, pretending to dab at her eyes. Greyson and I finally broke the kiss, laughing, eyes never leaving each other's.

Greyson left me one more kiss before I opened the door to my house and slipped in quietly.

I led Greyson to the guest room without waking my parents who were asleep on the sofa and went back to my room with Germaine and Ella.

The minute our heads touched our pillows, we were already fast asleep.
