As our car pulls up in front of our new house I notice a tall tan man and a slightly smaller teenager standing in our driveway. Our car parks and my dad immediately jumps out before embracing the man in the biggest hug I have ever witnessed. My mom got out shortly after he did, waiting for their hug to finish. I look over to the teenager to seem him looking in my direction.
Once my dad finishes his hug the man then gives my mom a hug, not as big and not as long. They begin talking until everyone's eyes set on the car. My mom motions me to come out and introduce myself. I hesitantly open my door and walk out.
As I walk towards them I notice the grin on the man's face a sparkle of proudness in his eye. The what I presume son was standing there a small smile on his face.
Once I reach them my dad wraps his arm around my shoulders.
"This here is my daughter Georgia". My dad said looking proudly at me.
I look down and my feet with a shy smile. My dad gives me a look before continuing.
"Georgia don't be shy you used to run around in only your diaper when you were younger. No shame you had".
I stare at him dumbfounded, before elbowing him in his ribs. He yelps and rubs his side.
I look up to see the man stiffling a laugh while my father glares at him. The man coughs slightly.
"Hello Georgia it's great to finally meet you". I look at him confused.
"Scott. Scot McCall."
I give him a small smile before he brings me into a hug. I stiffen up before lightly hugging him back.
He steps back once the embrace ended.
"This is my son Milo he's around the same age as you", Scott said whilst slapping his sons back.
I give him a nod of recognition and another small smile. He does the same.
My parents get into a conversation with Scott while I stand there twiddling my thumbs. It seems that Milo was doing the same. I take a leap of faith and approach him.
"Hi", I briefly say rubbing the back of my neck nervously, a habit I obtained from my dad.
"Hi", he says bouncing in the balls of his feet.
"Have you always lived in Beacon Hills?" I ask trying to start conversation.
"Yeah..my dad is the veterinarian of Beacon Hills". He says nervously.
"I'm not surprised your parents decided to move". He says briefly.
I furrow my eyebrows confused. We stay there in silence until I finally gather my thoughts.
"Why would my parents want to move? It's not like this town is haunted or anything." I retort.
He stiffens up. His dad turns his head to us as if he's been able to listen to both ours and his conversation. He approaches Milo patting him on the back before making a petty excuse that it was getting late and that Milo had school tomorrow. It would be been a good excuse if it wasn't 18:30. I simply nod my head before returning to my father's side. He and my mom says goodbye to the McCalls before heading inside with me on tail.
My dad opens the door revealing a plain cream wall and oak wood floor hallway. There was not a single sign of life. The living room was empty dust caked the floorboard, webs of spiders and dust hung in the corners, no furniture to clothe the rooms nudity.
The kitchen was more or less the second except that there were cracked tiles and a broken down oven.
The backdoor to the garden creaked when moved and was stiff against the tile when opened. It smelt dry and as of the house was abandoned and never to be seen again. The strange thing was was that there was food in the fridge. Apples, peppers, milk, meat. It was as if they left but decided to take all of their furniture forgetting about the possible pie in the oven, or the television they left on. It was like they vanished.
My dad said he bought the house pretty quickly saying this was the only house for sale at a reasonable price. He said he didn't even check the condition of the house. He said he's a dad and dads are capable of fixing up a house if needed. But I don't think a dad could fix this house. I don't even think a repair man- no a repair team could fix this house. It was a lost cause and my whole family knew that.
My dad however decided to try lift the mood by ordering pizza. I think he's only doing so because of the fact we have no oven.
We ate in silence. None of us knowing what to say to lift one another back up. I missed Queens, my friends, neighborhood, I missed my school, all of the teachers who had strange voices, a peculiar fashion taste, the ones who forgot to wash their hair or wear the same thing everyday because it was the only suitable and nice piece of clothing they could afford for school.
I lost my appetite and decide to go upstairs to see my room. I walk slowly up the wooden steps before standing outside the door of my room. I pushed lightly on the door for it to slowly open for a dramatic effect.
I was mortified with what I saw. The green wallpaper peeling off, the floor missing boards, the window cracked.
To make matters worse a mutant looking mouse ran across my feet causing me to drop my suitcase and scream.I have never screamed so loud in my life. It was as if I could break a thousand glasses if you would place them in front of me. I did just that with my already cracked window, but instead of it cracking more. It smashed. The shards flew out the window to sprinkle along the grass, but they also came into my room scraping me and prickling me while doing so.
My parents storm up the stairs. To see the sight. I sit on the floor blood dripping for my face legs and arms, glass shards scattered along my room. I look up to see my mom scared and my dad worried.
They look to each other before bringing their gaze back down on me.
I look at them frightened of what I did over a mere mouse. My parents stay still as if frightened of what I became. At that moment, I broke.
