"What kind of accident?" repeats Amelia urgently.
"He fell down in some scaffolding, broke legs, arms, and a piece of long metal lodged in his chest. The doctors took out the metal, but Mike lost a lot of blood, then died instantly."
That explained why Mike had bloodstains on his uniform.
"But what is the connection between Allison and Mike?"
"They're lovers," she explained. "they have dated since last February, and they broke up in November."
"How come?"
"Why are you so interested in Mike? Does this have something to do with you screaming at the lawn?"
That's when Amelia intervened.
"Because Jenny-she looked at the name of her badge- we need to protect Allison from whatever the hell is hurting her."
The vampire then walked up to her, and whisper something inside Officer Jenny's ear.
"What is your secret?"
"Excuse me?"
"Come on girlfriend," she says. "just talk to me, we're besties."
Oliver watched as the officer giggled quietly, and murmur something in Amelia's left ear.
He tries to listen, but it was too quick and low for him to hear.
What are those two talking about? he wondered.
Oliver didn't know what Amelia has in store for Officer Jenny, but he didn't want to find out.
As soon as they stopped whispering, the vampire asked why the relationship ended.
"Mike Jefferies is abusive," sighed Officer Jenny.
"Verbally or physically?" implied Oliver.
"Both," answered Officer Jenny.
"Allison tries to get away from him, but it was proven to be impossible."
"Hell, she even filed a police report against him, but Mike's father destroyed it before it could ruin his son."
"Mike's dad is a cop?" said Amelia. "Where is he?"
"He's dead; a drug dealer shot him."
"Wow," whistled Oliver. "thank you for the information."
Turning their heels, Oliver and Amelia walked out of the station, then reviewed what they have learned.
"Mike is Allison's abusive ex-boyfriend," said Oliver.
"They have been dating until November, Allison tries to report Mike to the cops, but thanks to Daddy Dearest, he tossed away the reports like yesterday's trash." sighed Amelia.
"He died in some construction accident, but we don't know when."
"Do you think we should talk to Allison?"
"I don't think so, Amelia. The last thing we want is Mike finding out we're onto him."
Amelia crossed her arms then mumbled, "I hate it when you're right."
They march down the white sidewalk, with the breeze fluttering their hair.
Annoyed, Oliver smoothed his hair down to keep itself from getting messy. However, Amelia didn't mind.
Dark blond hair wavered back and forth, like a flag. It caused some strands to hit her granite face, but then again, Amelia was born a fashion model.
