" You just gonna stand there? " Daddy said, as he got my suitcase from the back of the truck. I giggled and took off towards our light yellow house, and bolt into the kitchen. " Mama! " I exclaim as I run into my mother's arms, " I missed you! " My mom dropped the towel that was in her hands, and hugged me to the point that I could hardly breath.
After I laughed and finally pulled away from her embrace, I turned around to see my daddy smiling in the doorway with my suitcase. " I'll take this now, thanks daddy, " I thanked my dad and grabbed the handle of the suitcase and carried it up the creaky stairs to my bedroom.
Once I got to the top of the stairs, I used my elbow to open the door that led into the main upstairs room, then turned around the corner and opened the door to my room. " Ahh, " I relaxed as I set my suitcase on the floor and fell backwards onto the quilt that lay on my bed.
As soon as I had rested for about a minute, my senses began to kick in, and the hot air began to set into my consciousness. Although I loved the weather here, it could really get to you, and I had to get my boots and jacket off. I jumped off my bed and stripped the jacket off, then kicked off my boots.
" Fresh made sweet tea! " I heard my mom calling from downstairs. Along with missing everyone, I had also missed my mom's homemade sweet tea, so I bolted down the stairs and into the kitchen, " WHERE'S THE SWEET TEA!? " I screamed and spotted the liquid in a Mason jar on the counter.
" Thank ya mama! " I thanked her and grabbed the jar off the counter, then headed outside to the light yellow porch swing. As the cool drink poured down my throat, I leaned back on the wooden swing and let the sunshine soak into my skin. Once the jar was empty of the sweet tea, I had an idea.
My eyes wandered towards the red and white barn that was a couple hundred feet away from the porch, and my idea was put into action. I set the jar on a faded yellow table, pulled on a pair of socks and black square-toe boots, then made my short journey to the barn where I planned to search for something.
Once I reached the barn, I grabbed the metal handle and pulled the wood and metal door to the side, and looked over what lay inside. Tractor, hay, table saw, common objects for my family to have, and then in the corner I saw what I'd come to the barn to find. My dirt bike. I walked over to the green bike and pushed it through the open doors to the front driveway, and hopped onto the seat in preparation to get it running.
I got on my knees and turned the motor on, then hit the kick stand in with my boot. Once I pressed the button to start the bike, I rammed my weight onto a lever the allowed the fuel to surge through the tubes, which soon gave me the opportunity to twist the right handle backwards towards me and steer the bike down the driveway.
As soon as I rode to the main road, I switched into second gear an zipped along the side of the road for about a quarter of a mile, then turned onto a small dirt road that led to my best friend's house. The dirt road soon took me to a light blue, two story house that I was extremely familiar with.
" HONEY, I'M HOOOME! " I yelled at an open window on the second floor, which I knew was my best friend's room. A head popped out of the window, " LACEY! " I had just set my dirt bike on its kick stand when I looked up, " CARMEN! " She disappeared from the window and was kicking open the front door in a matter of seconds.
Carmen jumped off the porch and ran towards me as I braced myself for impact. " LACEYYY! " She jumped on me and we both ended up in a mess on the ground, which was expected from us. I got back on my feet, then turned around and grabbed Carmen's hands to help her up, but as I pulled her up, she jumped and we almost fell over again as we were hugging and laughing.
" I've missed you so much! " We both said at the same time, which caused us to laugh even harder. " Ok, ok. How was Panama City? " Carmen asked me. I began dusting myself off and replied, " It was really fun, but it sure is good to be back here. " She assured me that not much had happened while I was gone, then we headed in the house and upstairs to her room.
I ran and jumped on her bed, then she came bounding in the room after me while screaming, " INCOMING! " While we may be seen as "young adults" we sure don't act like it when we're together. " Lacey! " I heard my name being called from downstairs, so I hopped off the bed and walked to the stairs.
At the bottom of the stairs was Carmen's mom, " Lacey, you're mama called and she wants you to head home so you can start on your chores. " I nodded and thanked her for informing me. " Alright Carmen, I gotta go home and start my chores. " I told her as I skipped back into her room.
She complained, " Oh come on! You just got here and they're already starting you on chores? " I laughed, " Well yeah, somebody's gotta get stuff done 'round here. " We both walked back outside, then I hopped on my dirt bike and waved to Carmen, " See ya soon! " She waved back and nodded, then I took off to head back to my house.
