Waking up at the earliest hour is one of my most dreaded moments. Life is completely the opposite. Nights seem to be quite hot that you'd rather sleep on the floor than bed and mornings so cold that you'd wish for a cup of hot chocolate and marshmallow. And by the earliest hour, I mean six in the morning. I wait and listen silently to the ticks of the ornamental clock, wishing suddenly with the swish of my hand it would be night again, but nothing happens, so staring at the ceiling seemed to be a pretty good idea at the time. Looking at all the intricate light blue designs and patterns on the cream wall made me feel so lightheaded and then I remembered breakfast. The one part of the day that I hate the most. Usually I'm never hungry in the mornings but today I felt as though I could gobble down the whole kitchen. It's mostly because of the amount of homework our teachers assign us. Just then it occurred to me that I had to meet Kael and Zeth at Allexis' place for our project. I immediately rush to the bathroom, begin to have a hot shower which never fails to let me down, by washing away all my problems and worries. It's not like I have anything to worry about. I brush my teeth, get changed and as soon as I'm about to close my bedroom door, I hear thuds on the staircase and my aunt screaming out to me. "Hurry up Eva, your gonna get late again!" Eva's a nickname for Evanna, my aunt said my mom used to call me by another name. But ever since she left me, I've been called by Evanna although I must say I really don't remember my real name. In all the official papers my name's Evanna, even on my room door. I then scream back "I don't have school on Sundays, remember? Besides I'm going to Allexis' house for the project." Not that she remembers. My aunt does every way possible to keep me locked up in the house for some reason I don't even remember and I never bother to ask.
"Well then don't you be late, and stay with her at all times."
"I'm sixteen, big enough to go out on my own."
When I enter the kitchen I hear her muttering something unintelligible about teenage kids. I rush to the table where we usually eat and see that breakfast is already prepared. The aroma of bacon, grilled cheese bread and eggs makes my stomach grumble with hunger that it makes my aunt look at me like I smacked her face with a pan. I ignore and begin to dig into my food. Just as I'm about to, I look at my aunt. She looks at me for a while with deep piercing sea-blue eyes,a look I've never seen before and then says "Could you get my phone for me? It's seated on my dresser in my room." And in that moment as she spoke those words the breeze from the kitchen window blew her chocolate coloured hair in all directions and she looked fierce and pretty like an ancient warrior. "Eva are you listening?"
"Oops sorry...I...I...I'll go and get it." I stammered
I go up to her room and find it locked. But then I see something shining under the mat. I immediately remove the key from under the mat and open the door, and when I do I regret it. All her clothes thrown here and there. A complete mess, and she tells me that my room looks horridious. I go to her dresser, avoiding all the clothes by skipping and hopping. I take her phone and just as I'm about to turn back the way I came.
"Eva, come here."
The sweet voice sounded like my mother, the same one I hear almost everyday. No one knows about this. Firstly because I didn't tell them and secondly because they would think im a psycho. Just as I moved towards the sound I tumbled over the clothes which were strewn right near the bed. The soft and subtle voice reminded me of my mother. My mother left me with my aunt when i was five years old or so I was told. She just left me, no message, no note, nothing. I thought every night she had just gone to work and would be back the next day. But that day never came. Eventually I lost hope and knew my mom would never meet me again. The voice called out to me again, but this time with an aggressive tone "Evanna come closer."
I went closer to the window or wherever the voice seemed to be coming from and only when I came closer did I realise that the voice was not sweet at all, it was rather deep and rusty and sounded like a man. The voice startled me and I began shrieking with fear, but then I remembered the voices would last only for a few seconds as always. So I shook my head, went running back to the door, locked it and ran down. My aunt was staring at me, again.
"What took you so long?"
I tried my best to look calm and put a smile on my face which I'm sure Allexis would've recognised-a fake.
"I couldn't find it at first and then I did."
I handed her the phone and without any more hesitations, quickly had my breakfast and made my way to the front door.
"I'm leaving aunt Del."
"Okay but make it home in time for lunch."
" See you later. "
I swung the front door open and was hit by the cool morning breeze.
