The beginning of the End

"What's taking her so long?" Allexis inquired aloud to Kael and Zeth who were at that moment comfortably resting on her maroon-ish velvet sofa.
"I don't know... maybe traffic?"
Zeth laughed while remembering the few incidents when he went with Evanna for her driving courses.
"Should I go check up on her?" Kael asked although he hardly knew where she was.
"Yes but she walks all the way to my place and she was supposed to be here two hours ago! I can't get a hold of her. Dammit why isn't she picking up!" Allexis screamed out in frustration as she looked at the number of times she had called Eva while ignoring Kael and Zeth who were lying on the sofa passing snobbish comments at each other.
"Forget it, I'll just go and get her myself. Will you please calm down!" Kael who had finally composed himself replied as he hesitantly walked towards the front door, unknown of her whereabouts. He always thought Allexis' house was quite different considering the fact that in the whole block only her house had a European twist to it. He unlocked the door and put his hand on the doorknob slightly drawing back to the icy cold touch of it. He opened the door and glanced out. As always mornings seemed peaceful to him, the sound of birds chirping, people passing by on the way to work was something he was used to seeing everyday. But what he was not used to seeing was Evanna unconscious. She was seen peacefully sleeping in the garden right next to the rose bushes. He immediately rushed to her side and carried her in his arms. The training, even though it wasn't sufficient, definitely made it easier for him to carry her inside. As he reached the hall he saw Allexis and Zeth entwined in each other's arms.
"Wow. That's definitely how your supposed to act when someone goes missing."
Allexis jumped out of Zeth's grip awkwardly and looked at Kael. "That was quite fast and who is that?" she enquired as she saw a body in Kael's arms and immediately rushed towards him only to find out it was Evanna. She got a hold of Eva's hand and started to feel her pulse.
"She's alive alright, I can feel her heartbeat." Kael said trying to calm Allexis down.
"Couldn't you scream out?" Zeth asked as he got up from the sofa, allowing them to place Eva upon it.
"I'm not you. I can't be a chicken about everything." Kael laughed while an annoyed look appeared on Zeth's face.
"Where did you find her?"Zeth asked as he stared at the face of an unconscious Evanna.
"She was in the garden." Kael replied and started searching her body for marks that would explain all of this. He dusted off all the dirt from her full sleeved turtle-neck peach shirt and blue jeans.
"Its okay she'll be fine. Kael go and lay her on my bed upstairs. I'll get a glass of water to keep near the nightstand just in case she wakes up exhausted." Allexis said as she pointed to the room upstairs and immediately walked towards the kitchen, where Zeth followed her like a loyal puppy. Kael scooped Eva up into his arms and took her upstairs. Confused as to which room to go to as Allexis never let any of the boys go upstairs, he picked the closest one and entered it.  Compared to downstairs, this room was plain and simple yet in its own way elegant. The walls were light blue in colour and near the window on the brown coloured nightstand were a stack of books. He remembered that this room was designed specifically for Evanna, if anything ever happened because Allexis never read books, she'd rather play football or throw knife after knife at all the people she either found stupid or too irritating. He carried her across the room and laid her on the lavender coloured sheets, where she rest upon it undisturbed. He sat beside her using the few moments to examine her face. Her cheeks were flushed with a baby pink color and so had the tip of her nose. Her hair had come out of it's pony and her scrunchie was just at the bottom of her hair. He removed it and placed it on the nightstand letting her brownish black hair fall loosely on her shoulder. He couldn't help but notice strands of hair that had fallen on her cheek and quickly pushed it behind her ears as he remembered seeing her doing it everytime her hair fell on her face. He remembered all those times when he wanted to tell her how much he loved her. But thinking of how much danger he would put her in even though she already was dangerous, sent a chill up his spine as it was forbidden for him to love her as well. His fingers touched her face lightly and he noticed her skin had become cold, in fact too cold. He rushed to the end of the bed and covered her with the blanket, seeing that it wasn't of much help, he brought another one and put it over her, which too didn't help. He was left with one decision but since he knew he didn't have it under control yet and that it might just burn the whole house down, he was left with no choice but to wrap the sheets around her more tightly like a silkworm and wait for Allexis who was apparently taking a lot of time to get a glass of water. He noticed Eva's wavy hair -the ombre colour it had now become. He glanced at her again and was taken aback. Her hair really did turn ombre. For a moment he thought he was dreaming but then immediately realising what had happened called out to Allexis and Zeth.
"Guys come up quick!" They could be heard laughing as they walked up the stairs. When they reached the top and entered the room, they saw Kael standing silently in the corner with a terrified look on his face.
"Allexis wha..wha..what's going on? Loo..look at her hair!"Kael stammered.
Allexis looked at Eva's ombre coloured hair which was slowly returning to her original colour and with a sigh replied "It's happening."
