the poet in the dark

fake generosity

when you're the friend
that people always go to
when they need help,
or someone to talk to

when you're that friend
that's always there for others,
you don't expect anything in return.

making anyone
other than you
happy
makes you happy

win win
right?

but not really,
because when you really need someone,
or when you look at
how you're treated
you always give 105%
while they give way less.

after getting so used
to getting nothing in return,
it really strikes a downfall
when you need someone the most

or when you actually
get treated the same way
in return.

you get overwhelmed
and feel
as if you don't
deserve this type of treatment

you're awestruck
by their actions towards you,
because that's exactly
what you deserve
yet, you don't feel that's right.
