Chapter Two

No. No. No. No. No. This can't be love at first sight. Love is not accumulated at first sight. Love starts when you get to know what someone is like. When you see them talk about what they love or when you see them read a good book. Not just by making eye contact for ten seconds!!

I quarreled with myself mentally until I came to the only rational answer.

It was extreme "like" at first sight...

I finally collected my irrationally crazy thoughts....

I need to find the human being I had just shared that extraordinary moment with. Gathering up the courage to search for this person, I slowly turned away from my secure, safe circle of friends to the shady abyss of dancing bodies located behind me.

I scanned the perimeter until I caught glimpse of who looked like my mystery guy. I couldn't tell for sure though as his back was facing towards me.

I need to see his face...

I chuckled at myself for sounding like a creep.

"Excuse me.. Um... Excuse me please?" I tried to push and squeeze my way through the swaying bodies, but I just couldn't. My voice was too soft and no one could hear me over the music.

After a failed attempt of trying to move around the abyss of sweaty dancing bodies, I gave up my quest to see his face. Instead, I made a bee line towards the D.J.'s table. I couldn't stand anymore of these lame songs...

I needed good songs to dance to. Actually, I just needed to dance.

After a long time period of pondering on which songs to request, I slowly made my way back to my friends. As I approached closer, I could see mystery guy (at least who I think mystery guy is) walking away from where my friends were located.

What......?

I started shoving my way through the crowd to get back to my clique. There was a lot of fussing and apologizing as I made my way through.

"Hey Syd. Who was that boy that just came over here?!" I tried to ask through my frantic breath. It was difficult getting through a sea of bodies...

"He was this really cute Asian boy. It was weird though. He came to our circle, stood in your spot, and then left right before you came." She explained.

I covered my face with my hands and made a noise that sounded like a dying walrus.. uragh.

"Are you alright? Wait....." She examined me with an Asian squint, "Who is this boy and what does he mean to you??!"

I looked at her through my fingers.

"Spill the beans Mara."

"Bleh. Fine. It's just this guy I made eye contact with for a long time and think I extremely like... Haha."

"It's love at first sight!" Sydney exclaimed.

"Wait. Mara is in love?" Miley asked. "With who?"

"Crap Syd! You've spilled the beans TOO loudly..." I returned to hiding my face behind my hands.

"I'm sorry Mara."

"It's fine."

"But who does Mara love?!" Miley was still questioning me, but now the rest of our friends were beginning to join our little convo. They all began to bombard me with questions until I just let everything out.

"HE'S JUST A GUY I MADE AWKWARD EYE CONTACT WITH, OKAY?"

My friends grinned at me silently as they all exchanged glances with on another.

Oh dear....

"Why are you guys all looking at me like that? It's freaking me out."

"You're so in love!!" they all teased.

"No," I defensively spoke. "I am in extreme LIKE. Get it straight."

"I'm gonna go talk to him about you." Miley winked and then began walking in the direction he had left to.

Before I got the chance to stop her in her mischievous tracks, my phone vibrated. Down on the screen was a message from my mum:

Waiting in the car 4 u plz hurry up. mommy tired ;P

I silently cursed under my breath. It was too late to stop Miley, she was almost to him and his friends.

I tried to say my goodbyes as fast as I could so I could exit without being seen, but it was already all too late. Right before I reached the exit, I looked back to see Miley standing next to an extremely attractive boy... But her arm and the rest of her hand were all pointed at me. Shit.
