This is NOT CANON. Just an idea.
Owen couldn't stand it. His incessant alarm clock. Why he even got the thing in the first place, he'd never understand. The constant beeping was driving him insane, and made him wonder just how durable the alarm clock was and how it would fair being thrown against the wall.
Groaning, Owen rolled over and slammed his hand down on the clock, the beeping finally ceasing. He reveled in the silence, as it was only 8 in the morning. It had been nearly 4 months since he'd left the island, and still he was having trouble getting out of the morning routine of waking up early.
He still had nightmares of that last night on the island. The way the Indominus had marched right up Center Street, towering over everyone. The way the raptors changed back to his side and were ready to defend him. The way Bailey was willing to sacrifice everything to save him. The image of Bailey laying motionless on the rubbled still haunted him. Her un-breathing body terrified him to his core, and the way her eyes rolled back into her head made him believe she was gone.
If the fight between the Indominus and T-rex had lasted any longer, and it took Owen just a few minutes longer to get Bailey to the underground storage area, he would have never found that off-duty vet and he never would have been able to revive the fallen canine.
When Bailey opened her chocolate brown eyes again, and made eye contact with Owen, his world fell back into place. His best friend was okay, in very rough condition, but okay. He had to admit, Bailey was possibly one of the toughest dogs on the planet. With everything she went through in the forest, having a raptor bite her leg and an agent trying to kill her, as well as the fatal blow from the Indominus, she somehow still managed to keep on ticking. Albeit, she did pay the price, having her front leg amputated right after they arrived back. His brave little soldier.
Owen rolled over and laid on his back, one arm outstretched. He yawned loudly, stretching his legs, only to notice the large spot on the end of his bed was empty. Lifting his head from his pillow, he saw that the spot on the bed that his best friend occupied was indeed empty. This was unusual to Owen, as Bailey was always at the foot of his bed when he woke up.
"Bailey?" Owen called out, getting no response from his dog. "Bailey?" He tried again, expecting her to come running, to no avail. Throwing the duvet off his legs, Owen grabbed a pair of sweats and a tee shirt before wandering off into his apartment to find his dog.
The door opened directly into the living room. Glancing around, Owen saw no sign of his german shepherd anywhere.
"Bailey!" He called out once again. He still got no response. Walking to the kitchen, Owen quickly grabbed a mug and poured himself a mug of coffee from his drip coffee machine. Leaving it black and taking a sip, he thought about where Bailey could be hiding. She had to be in the apartment, because they live on the 3rd floor, and the front door was locked, and didn't have a doggie door. So there was literally no way for Bailey to escape.
"Where the hell is my dog?" Owen muttered to himself, taking a sip of coffee. A small noise drew Owens attention to his bathroom. The door was wide open. Walking towards the bathroom, Owen stepped inside to see nothing, except the door to his closet being shoved open as well.
The small noises sounded again, from within the closet. Owen's brow furrowed. What was that noise? It definitely was not Bailey.
Taking slow steps towards the door, Owen's grip on his coffee tightened, unknowing of what to expect. When he finally did open the door, Owen's eyes nearly bulged out of hi head and his coffee almost fell from his grip. He hurriedly put his coffee on the bathroom counter and ran into the closet, where his gorgeous 3 legged german shepherd laid on the rug, with a mound of puppies laying before her.
"Oh my-" Owen was at a loss for words. He had no idea that Bailey was even pregnant! And here she was with 6 beautiful puppies laying next to her stomach. Bailey's tail began wagging widely, ecstatic to see Owen finally meet her puppies. Owen crouched on his knees and cradled Bailey's muzzle in his hands.
"Oh my god! You're crazy!" He spoke, his excitement running high. Looking down at the puppies, he saw 1 solid black puppy, 3 sable puppies, 2 brown liver puppies, but the one that caught his eye, was pure white, and smaller than the rest. The runt.
Owen thought back to when Bailey could have gotten pregnant. The only time she had possible time to actually get pregnant was when Owen took her to a nearby dog park to stretch after she got her stitches out from her leg.
"You're sneaky you know that? The one time I take you to a dog park..." He chuckled.
"You are never going to a dog park again." He scolded in a joking manner before kissing Bailey between the eyes. She responded by quickly licking his face repeatedly.
"Okay okay stop!" Owen wiped his face clean of saliva.
"I guess we gotta' name these guys don't we?" Bailey wagged her tail more.
Owen looked down at the puppies and thought. As he looked at each one, he came up with a name for it.
Scout, Milo, Teddy, Olive, Honey.
When he picked up the white runt, and actually looked at it's tiny face, Owen's heart melted. If there was one puppy he was keeping, it was this one. He had a thing for runts, after all, Bailey was one as well.
Thinking long and hard about a name for the little thing, he finally came up with one.
"How about Piper." The puppy squeaked, and Owen took that as conformation.
"Piper it is."
