Chapter Sixteen
(A/N: We're starting off in Jake's POV so try and keep up with it. I promise I won't try to make it this confusing all the time. Love you Peaches.)
"Yes, mom. I promise. I'm taking care of her, she's a good girl so she doesn't give anyone a hard time." I responded with a sigh to my mom, who was currently asking questions about Lenne and I. Whether I liked it or not, there wasn't much to say. This past week or so, since she got with Marco, we've been both minding our own business, maybe a short conversation here and there. I've stopped trying to be around her and trying to talk to her because most of the time she's around him and it makes me so pissed off. All of the sudden, he swoops in like he's seen and noticed her forever and on top of that I heard Marcia and Gabby laughing about how Marco was doing such a good job with Lenne. Something wasn't right.
"I'm serious Jake, you've caused enough trouble with how you treated the poor girl. Don't think me and Julia don't know about that. We put two and two together when we were talking about you two and relationships in school." she added with her 'Don't test me Jake Reece Asher' voice. After assuring for another five minutes, I finally was able to say goodbye and hang up the phone. The restroom I had slipped into talk to talk to my mom was quiet until the sound of the door opening broke the silence. My back was still turned, for whoever it was probably just had to pee. Well, that's what I thought until that someone spoke up.
"So, Asher, how is it that you live with this chick and I still was the one that scored her?" announced Marco in a confident and snarky tone. My fist clenched, but I, for the most part, kept quiet and calm, ignoring the arrogant look on his face. Turning to walk out, he decided to open his fucking mouth again, this time making me listen in and stop what I was doing. "I mean, never would I have thought that Loser Lenne would stop hiding behind the glasses huh? But still, she won't put out so I gotta keep sleeping with Marcia to take care of my needs," he chuckled, looking in the mirror and fixing his hair. The vein in my forehead was throbbing at this point and though my common was saying not to react, I still did. Turning around, I drew back my fist and punched right in the jaw. I took advantage of the shock and pain on his face to shake off my wrist and walk out of the restroom. Turns out I was right, him, Gabby, and Marcia were up to something. Now, how do I tell Lenne without getting her upset?
Lenne's POV
I was shuffling through my papers when Marco came up to me with a huge bruise on his jaw. The shock on my face resembled him, for his eyes were still stunned and his jaw was set into one of pain. With wide eyes, I stood up and grabbed his face to inspect his jaw.
"What the hell happened to you?" I questioned, my hand touching his bruise slightly, causing him to flinch away from my touch. He stepped back and rubbed his jaw with pain evident on his facial expression. "Your roomie happened. We were talking in the restroom and he got angry and tense when I started talking about you. Next thing I knew the guy was taking a swing at my jaw and I couldn't block it. I'll be fine though Beautiful. You know me, I'm tough." he teased making a mock growling sound and flexing. Laughing slightly, I tucked my hair behind my ears and kissed his cheek softly, making sure not to hurt him. I couldn't believe Jake hit him, especially since we hadn't been talking much. We've been minding our own business and haven't even had small skirmishes about anything.
"You sure you'll be ok? We can go to the nurse if you want?" I mumbled softly, tracing the bruise on his jaw. Jake had taken a good hit, for Marco's jaw was already slightly purple. Shaking his head, he kissed my forehead and said bye because he had to go to class. With another sigh, I sat down in my chair and waited for Jake to walk into the classroom. When he did, his eyes scanned across the room until they landed on me. He quickly walked over to me, confusion written on his face because I was glowering on him. Did he expect me to be ok with what he did to Marco? Sure, he can be egotistical sometimes and he had his snarky comments but, he didn't have to hit him. "Lenne we need to tal-" I cut him off, standing up and slapping him across the face. Adrenaline was pulsing in gallons through my veins and I knew he wasn't going to be happy about what I did so, I spoke up before he could.
"No. Next time, if you have a problem with someone or something someone says you use your words because if not someone else with retaliating just like this. I don't react to a lot of things but, it was one thing to mess with me and it's completely another one to mess with my friends or boyfriend." I scowled at him, shaking my head, picking up my binder and walking to the other side of the classroom. "He's cheating on you with Marcia!" he yelled behind me, making me scoff and roll my eyes. His way of saying sorry and justifying what he did is saying something like that? Really?
