"Alright as I point to you, state your name and your ability." demonstrated Ms.Milton as she welcomed her class to a new school year. It was August 21st and it had been a week since the discovery of my powers. Ms.Milton pointed at each student starting with the first row. A small fragile looking brunette went first. "Amber." she stated. Then she grabbed the lead pencil off her desk and stab the arm of the boy next to her. In shock, I gasped and wondered if her power was being a psychopath. Amber casually ripped out the lead pencil and glided her hand over his arm. A yellow glow made the wound disappear and the no longer injured boy laughed in amusement.
Jackson, the boy who was stabbed apparently had the power of invulnerability and was immune to pain. Austin showed the ability to appear invisible and snuck under the desk to look at Julias' inner thighs. He was not aware that Julia was a shapeshifter and she was actually Julian. The boys made me feel welcomed and earned a few laughs on my account. This whole accepting a new world was difficult but knowing there was more people like me out there eased the transition.
Each student demonstrated their power until Ms.Miltons' finger landed on me. "Scarlett." I let out as I turned to the girl named Olivia next to me and touched her arm. Electricity shot through me and the lights in the room went out. Momentarily, the lights returned and students were staring at me because powers can not be repeated in a generation. "I absorb powers." Things fell silent until Austin said "Did you absorb a Shady when you killed that girl?" As my blood starting boiling I walked out of the classroom. That's why I was "her". Word got out about the night that Violet died.

I couldn't fight off accusations because in all honesty I still didn't know what happened that night. But I know I didn't mean for anything to happen. But things did happen, and I couldn't change that. "He can be a real douche." said Amber as she appeared from no where. I guess she was trying to heal my feelings. "I'm fine, screw him. There's always gonna be that one person." I replied. Somewhere in our conversation about Austin being an ass and me being an outcast, Amber invited me to have lunch with her. I accepted the offer, realizing that that was not the time to be excluded.

Once class was dismissed and the crowds filled with unfamiliar faces, Amber and I walked to the Dining Hall. I was raised in Miami where the school lunch tasted like ass and you couldn't do much about it. So when I saw the lunch choices were not only editable, but enjoyable, my mood turned around. I was never the kind of girl who worried about weight since I was always active. I was a dancer back at home. Home. I couldn't think about home so I focused more on the conversation taking place at the lunch table.
"Scarlett, you should come." welcomed Jeremiah. I hadn't even noticed he was eating with us until he spoke and since I wasn't following the conversation I was completely lost. "Come where?" I asked. "Tates party. He's a senior and he throws a welcome back party every year. Since it's his last year, I'm sure this ones gonna be crazy." Amber filled me in. "Sure, what the hell." I accepted.
If people I didn't even know were going to know me for murder, I might as well look good while being stared at.
