When Spencer Reid arrived to work, he had no idea what he was dealing with. The team was sitting at the round table flipping through photos on their tablets when Spencer ran into the room, apologizing for being late. Penelope handed him a vanilla folder and stood by the television, clicking a few buttons on her remote as a few children began to appear on the screen.

"This morning, approximately at 9:37 am, Richardson Middle School went on lockdown from an intruder. There's only nearly a dozen children inside since school isn't in session." Penelope explained as the team flipped through their own individual files.

Spencer's stomach twisted into knots, his mind began racing as he heard Penelope explain the case. Richardson Middle School. The same school he had just dropped off his daughter to twenty three minutes ago.

"Reid? What's wrong?" Derek asked, glancing up from a photo of one of the hostages to stare at his pale-faced coworker.

"That— That's where— Colette." Spencer stammered, rubbing his eyes frantically with the palm of his hand. "My daughter is inside that school!"

The team fell silent, no one had any clue of what to say. "This case has become personal, we need to think through every decision we make properly so we don't put anyone in danger. Is that understood?" Aaron Hotchner was primarily looking at Spencer when he said this. The team nodded. "Good. We're leaving in five minutes."

Everyone left the room except for Spencer and JJ, who sat at the table staring at each other. "We'll get her out safely Spence, I promise." She leaned forward and grabbed his hand, rubbing her thumb against his skin. "We'll catch—."

JJ was interrupted by Spencer standing up and leaving the room in the middle of her talking. He appreciated the concern she had for him but he wasn't the one in danger — his daughter was, and that's all that mattered until he got her back. He walked alone to the SUV and sat in the backseat, Derek and Rossi were up front.

The ride seemed to take hours, the three sat in silence as they were all at a loss of words. Spencer filed through hundreds of worst case scenarios in his mind, he couldn't see any positive outcome of this case. They had no idea who the perpetrator was, how dangerous he was, and the safety of the children inside. He felt so guilty, the last thing he did was yell at Colette; what if that's the last time he'll talk to her?

Derek pulled the SUV in front of the school and Spencer quickly scrambled out of the backseat and stared at the school, angry tears burning in his eyes. He followed Rossi to the officers underneath a tent across the parking lot, there was a table with equipment set up and headphones. Spencer presumed they're trying to get radio signals from inside the school.

"Welcome agents, I'm Officer Kinsman." The officer introduced, shaking Derek and Rossi's hands. Spencer merely nodded to him, unable to shift his focus from the front doors of the school. "So far we haven't had any disturbances from inside the school. Whatever's going on inside, we have no idea yet."

Finally, something caught Spencer's attention. The main window on the second floor. There was movement in front of it, the body looking like an older male. Spencer watched as the window shattered and a body was thrown to the ground. SWAT and police officers directed their firearms to the window, waiting for a shot of the unsub. Everyone waited for a few seconds before another body was thrown from the window.

The worst part? Spencer could see some bodies flail in the air; some of the children were still somewhat alive as they were being thrown. Children were continuing to be tossed from the second floor, law enforcement could only watch in horror.

"Why— Why aren't they going inside?" Spencer asked, looking over at Derek who was staring at the school with squinting eyes.

"They don't have—." Another body fell from the window. "We can't go in yet, it may not be safe for the children still alive. He could've set a bomb in the school and set it off right as we send our people in. We just can't yet."

Spencer shook his head, clenching his fists at his side. "We need to do something now or my daughter is going to die. Either the team does something or I'll take matters into my own fucking hands." Before Derek could argue, Spencer turned on his heels and ran back to the SUV to collect his thoughts.
