"What are you doing?" came a child's voice.
I slowly turned around and looked down at the tiny girl. She was rubbing the sleep from her electrically blue eyes and her golden hair was an absolute mess, just like mine.
I knelt down in front of her. Her curious eyes filled me with a sadness I preferred not to think about. I hoped that events wouldn't play out in that way...
"What I'm doing isn't important, love, just forget you ever saw me." I whispered in my sweetest voice.
But then the girl peeked around me. She had, of course, come to her parents bedroom to see her mom.
I watched as confusion morphed her face.
"Mommy?" she cried out in panic.
The little girl looked back at me. The terror that had started to form on her face broke my heart.
"Come here, love. It'll be alright." I whispered, opening my arms to embrace her.
The little girl threw herself into my arms and started crying. I hugged her tightly, comforting her as best I could.
After a few minutes she started to calm down. She pulled herself a little away from me and looked up into my eyes. Her face was tear stained and her beautiful eyes were red and puffy.
In that moment I did the only rational thing I could.
I picked up the knife I'd used on her mother and I slit her throat before she even realized a thing.
The deep red that drained from her body was more mesmerising then her electrically blue eyes had been.
I glanced back at the little girls mother, the girl had interrupted us and we weren't done. The woman stugled against the ropes that bound her, struggled to get to her beautiful daughter.
But her daughter was dead, and she shortly followed.
So I guess things did play out favorably.
