my lungs spread their wings to catch the updraft of my breath
the warmth of my breath brushes my lips
my tongue curves around the warm soft words
painting them with careful strokes
i love you
my tongue is leaden
it shapes the words into existence
polishing them into a semblance of truth
the molten lie drips from my lips
burning my mouth
i hate you
my tongue smooths these new words
gently shading them to life
i'm sorry
and this time my face mirrors what my mouth shapes
i am truly sorry
