When we're kids everything makes us happy
We get excited to open gifts on Christmas morning
And we live in the stories that our parents tell us
We are so naïve that we don't look at the negative in the world
But as we get older, life wears us down
And we learn that there can't be good without bad in this life
We search endlessly for that excitement that we used to get so often
And it's hard to cherish the moments where we get to be a kid again because we know it won't last forever
We search everywhere for that little bit of hope that we can be the way we used to be, just happy and free
We search in people. Just so we can feel alive again.
We search in that last drink and that last puff of smoke. Just so we can numb the pain.
We look back on our younger selves and think: how did I become who I am?
We think: when did those Christmases start becoming a burden? When did those stories stop becoming a reality? We think: how can I make my life full?
"Don't chase happiness" is what we're told. We're told to
"Have patience and let happiness come to you."
To "Grow up"
Grow up is not the thing to do to make your life full
Up is a place where you'll feel nothing but down
