I waved my hand as a fly buzzed too close to my head, slightly annoyed about all the bugs.

"Remind me again why you're dragging me out here?" I complained to my newest boyfriend. He smiled back at me.

"You'll see. I found something really cool. Thought you might like to check it out with me."

I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms, pouting. "Come on, Stiles. Isn't there something you'd rather do with me?"

The boy stopped in his tracks, then slowly turned around, eyebrows set low over his gorgeous brown eyes. "Lydia Martin, are you trying to bribe me?"

I shrugged innocently. "I'm just saying, we would have a lot more fun back at your place, but if you don't want to..." I intentionally let my voice trail off, strutting past him.

"Wrong way," he commented once I had gone far past him.

I turned around. He was grinning, revealing the dimples I had grown quite fond of. "Well then, lead the way," I said calmly, gesturing for him to go in front of me.

We trudged on for a few more minutes before reaching an old, rickety tree house. He immediately starts climbing the makeshift ladder. I frowned.

"You're going to kill yourself," I commented, wincing every time the steps creaking under his weight.

He laughed. "It's fine. You coming?"

I was reluctant, but eventually I decided to join him. What's the worst that could happen, right?

He pulled me into the treehouse. It smelled like dust and-for some reason-stale bread.

"Cool, right?" He was grinning again. I nodded absently.

"Yeah, awesome. Can we go now? This place gives me the creeps."

He laughed. "Don't worry, I'll protect you," he said, kissing me. Just like always, I felt like I was floating through time and space with no particular direction or any urgency to be anywhere but here.

I was pulled back to earth with three simple words:

"We're watching you."

I pushed Stiles away, whirling around to see where the voice was coming from. My boyfriend took my hand. "You okay Lydia?"

I swallowed. "Y-you didn't hear that?" I asked, pushing my hair out of my face.

He shook his head. "What was it?"

I shook my head. "Nothing... It was probably my imagination." I knew it wasn't; it was far too clear to be in my head.

We're watching you.

I shivered. "Let's just get out of here."

Stiles nodded, and I climbed back down the ladder, carefully placing my shaking feet on the rungs of the ladder.

I knew something was wrong as soon as my feet touched the ground. A scream bubbled up in my throat, but I pushed it down, deciding instead to call, "Stiles?"

Then, I heard it again:

"We're watching you."

I kicked off my shoes and raced back up the ladder.

"Stiles!" I shouted, my heart pounding. I climbed into the tree house.

The first thing I saw was the body of the love of my life, lying on the ground.

That's when I screamed.
