Mack POV~

The soft breeze blows my dark hair around my face, as we walk with Rosko to the nearest coffee shop. Usually in the city you will only find Starbucks, but one day while I was walking Rosko I found a cute little corner coffee shop, perfect for nights like these. The temperature was cold enough for a jacket but hot enough for shorts, to me it was perfect.

We are both silent while walking through the lit up city, but it was a comfortable silence. Almost as if we didn't need to talk to be entertained. I found my eyes glancing up to the man towering over me as we walked. He noticed my stare and I quickly shifted my eyes to the ground. I noticed a fresh piece of gum on the floor and quickly stepped over it, putting myself in a weird stance with my legs almost doing the splits because I stepped away from it way to far ahead.

I noticed Harry chuckling as I made my way around my other leg that was almost touching the piece of gum. I let out a soft laugh, not wanting to disturb the peaceful silence.

"Were you ever in dance?" Harry asked randomly after a few minutes.

I looked up at him with a confused face. "No, I mean I tried but I'm too much of a clutz to have that kind of coordination. I dropped the class after the first day." I smiled at the memory.

"Oh." He responds cooly.

"Why, were you?" I laughed a little at the thought.

"Haha no, nonononono. I could never dance. I was a singer." he smiled crookedly at me.

"Oh really, you realize you have to sing for me now." I smiled at him.

"Oh no, I don't think so." He tells me as we near the coffee shop.

"Oh come on, why did you bring it up then. You obviously wanted to let me know." I speak in a teasing voice.

"Yeah, yeah believe what you want." He says as he reaches for the handle to the coffee shop.

He opens the door for himself and it slams shut in my face as I stand in front of it.

"K thanks, douchebag." I mutter to myself.

I open the heavy door with one hand and just as it tries to close I slip my foot into the crack.

I feel the weight on my foot as I hurry to get inside. Harry is already at the counter ordering his drink.

I roll my eyes at the dick move, but shake it off. He has probably always been this way.

After we finished ordering we found a table outside in a corner. The people here were really pet friendly and have water bowls lying out for dogs. I should start coming here more often.

We were sat comfortably enjoying the silence and our coffee. The breeze was starting to pick up as some clouds rolled in. I could tell it was going to be a rainy week.

As I thought of the pictures I could take of the city while it was raining, Harry asked me a question.

"So Mackenzie, what's your story?" he slides back in his chair bringing his coffee with him.

I look up from where I was zoning out and ponder over the question.

"There's not much to tell," I lie "and my name is Mack."

"Oh come on Mackenzie, you've had all this time in your life and you haven't done one cool thing?" he protests.

I roll my eyes again at the horrid name and dog even bother to correct him again. "I mean, when I was little I liked to draw and I've always liked taking pictures of things so, I guess that's where my passion came from." I answer.

"No not the story of your profession, I want to know the real Mackenzie." He pushed.

I swallow and get ready for the big ass lie I have to tell everyone again and again.

"Well, my parents died in a car accident when I was six, so I had to come live with my grandma. She lives like an hour away from the city, and I uh had like two friends in school, but they moved away and now we barely talk, and after I graduated I went to college for two years, but I had enough credits from school, so I applied at Life and now... here I am." I smile and shrug my shoulders as I reach for my coffee.

He sits up and grabs my hand before I take my cup and holds it. I look at our hands and then look up at him weirdly.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't know." He stares at me softly until I break our gaze and take my hand out of his.

"Sorry I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable, I was just uh comforting you or something, I don't want you to thin-" his sentence is cut off by his cell phone ringing.

"Go ahead." I tell him while I take a sip of my coffee and end up burning my tongue. Why the hell is this thing still so hot.

He stands up and walks farther up the sidewalk and stands with one foot in the alley right next to the shop.

Why would he have to go so far to take a phone call? I guess he likes his privacy.

I go to pick up my coffee again to give it another try, and overhear Harry shouting to whoever is on the other line. The moon light is hitting half of his angered face as he continues to yell.

I start to worry and as I'm about to get up a man in all black runs out from the alley behind Harry's back towards me and drops a paper on the table.

I look back in shock and look back up the sidewalk to see Harry still on the phone.

I quickly grab the paper with shaky hands and read over it almost ten times.

In scratchy writing, there it says, "Forget what you saw. Or else."

I think back to the night I fell asleep in the park and saw someone about to shoot someone. I get a wave of anxiety and run my hand through my hair, pulling at the roots.

What the hell is happening. Just as my thoughts are going crazy, I hear Rosko whimpering.

I look down and see him laying down, still whimpering. I bend down and go to scratch behind his ear but notice blood on the ground.

My breathing becomes heavier as I turn Roskos face to the side to see blood dripping out of his mouth.

"Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god." I quickly pick him up with all the strength I have and start to run towards the nearest animal hospital.

I run past Harry but he grabs my elbow and hangs up with whoever is on the phone.

"What's going on?" he asks calmly.

I didn't even feel the tears that we're falling from my eyes as I held my injured dog.

"I-I don't know I was siting and some guy came up and there was a paper and then I looked at Rosko and he is bleeding and I- I don't know what the hell is going on." I start to panic as I pull my arm off of Harry and begin to run again.

I can hear Harry running after me but I don't care. "Wait, My car is parked a block away, it will be faster!" He yells at me.

"Okay." I breath out shakily

I start to run down the block almost bumping into everyone who is out on the sidewalk, but I don't have time to apologize.
