If there was any kind of constant in Cree's life (other than Abbie of course) it was caves. As a young trainer, Cree was always found in the caves of the regions that she visited and it was in one of these many caves that she happened upon an Onix. She caught the Onix, named him Franky, and dammit she fucking loved him. After a short time of bonding with her new Pokemon, Cree found someone that also had an Onix and they agreed to trade so that their Onix's could evolve into a Steelix.
Even as a Steelix, Cree's immense love for her giant boy did not relent. She babied the hell out of him and it's something that she does even to this day. How she must look to other people. Babying this large Steelix as if it was a tiny Joltik or Togepi. But Cree didn't give a fuck. Let them think what they want because nothing could stop her from loving Franky.
Her neighbor mentions to Cree from time to time that there are rumors of a giant cursed Pokemon going through the caves of Amethyst. Cree didn't tell her it was Franky because her neighbor's gossiping nature was one of the few annoying factors of the woman. It wasn't like she could keep Franky at the house, he was too big and Amethyst was perfect for her beloved Steelix to destroy what it wants and not put people in danger. Cree just wants what's best for him and what's best is space.
When she goes to Amethyst to see him, she sees Hudson, and it's always in those caves. Spelunking brought the two of them together and they're great friends. He seemed a little familiar but Cree just could never place where she'd seen him before. But Franky gets along with Hudson and so does Cree.
There's another guy on Amethyst as well. Drew. He's kind of a fool but fun to be around. Even if Hudson isn't around (which is basically never on Amethyst) Drew is. He even brings his Pokemon to play at the Daycare (in truth, this was probably how they got more acquainted with each other because on Amethyst Cree is usually spelunking). Who knew that in finding a place for Franky to roam free, Cree found two men that at this point is kind of irreplaceable?
Like all other important things in her life; her Pokemon led Cree to Hudson and Drew. And maybe someday, Amethyst would be her home too.
