Tiptoeing slightly, I carefully hung a wreath over the front door. I smiled as I looked at the Christmas-fied door.
"Y/N~!" A voice sounded. I looked over my shoulder to see my fiancé, a shopping bag in hand. "I bought the tree!"
"I'm pretty sure I said that I'll buy it," I chuckled.
"I'll feel bad if you did all the work. What good of a fiancé am I if I let my fiancée decorate the house all by herself," he pout.
I let out another chuckle.
Exactly a day from now a year ago, Vylad proposed to me. The 25th of December is a special day for us. Tomorrow is our second anniversary, being engaged to each other. A wonderful time to propose, don't you think?
"I'll go put this tree in place then!" Vylad smiled as he walked inside of our house to set our tree.
I glanced around at the neighbourhood. Every house on the street shining with all the lights hung up. Snowmen made with the snow on their yard. Some cleared it up, others let it be. Snowflakes falling from the sky, making the neighbourhood more beautiful than it already was.
"Y/N! Are you going to see the tree or what?" Vylad called from inside the house.
"Coming!" I turned to face the house and looked back for a second. Smiling gleefully, I went into the house.
Inside, Vylad grinned at me before facing the big brown shopping bag with the tree in it before reaching inside. He raised the tree slowly while making sound effects, which made the tree seem majestic.
"Ta da~!" He showed off the tree, posing with it as if there was a photoshoot going on.
I was trying to hold back my laughter but I couldn't managed to do so. I laughed with Vylad soon joining in.
"I'm putting it down!" He said as he placed the tree at the side of our fireplace tilted. Then, he reached inside the bag once more with both hands and after a few seconds, raised his hands. On the palm of his hands were various ornaments to go on the tree.
Without wasting any time, I grabbed an ornament and decorated the tree with it. I continued until the ornaments that Vylad was holding was on the tree.
Vylad reached inside the bag once more and in his hands were the best part. The star. It glistened and twinkled. I was awed by its beautifulness.
"Beautiful isn't it?" Vylad asked but I paid no heed to his question.
"Now then!" He boomed, getting me out from the trance of the star. "Who should put this beauty up?"
"I think it's better to do it together," I replied.
"You're right." Vylad took hold of both my hands and smiled. "Let's do it together, Y/N."
I smiled as I nodded my head. He raised my hands, my palm facing him and place a side of the star in my grasp with the other side in his. I nodded my head, signalling him I'm ready. He nodded back and both of us face the shining tree. We walked towards it, our pace matching each other.
"3..." Vylad started.
"2..." I joined in.
"1..." We said in unison as we gently placed the star on top of the tree.
I couldn't help but be in awe at the sight of our Christmas tree. Sure, it's not a proper tree but our tree is just as majestic as an actual Christmas tree. The sparkling multi-coloured ornaments, the glistening star at the top is what made the tree as special as it currently is.
"Babe..."
"B-Babe??" I freaked out.
"Ah, sorry. I thought it's natural for me to call you babe seeing that we're engage and all..."
"Ahhh!! No,no. It's my fault. I just...You've never called me babe before so I freaked out. Sorry.."
"It's fine. Sorry for springing it out on you all of a sudden..."
Then there was silence.
Even when we're engaged for almost a year now, we're not use to pet names...and the occasional awkward silence.
"Did you send out the invitation cards to everyone?" Vylad broke the silence between us.
Thank goodness.
"Yeah."
I spoke too soon. The silence is back.
"Tomorrow's our anniversary isn't it?" Vylad broke the silence between us once more. Thank--I won't make the same mistake again. "Time sure flies by fast."
Yeah was all I could say. But he's right. Just a year ago, we got engaged and moved in into this neighborhood together. Our first house together. I quit my job at the cafe due to the distance here to there. I spent a few weeks trying to find a new job. I was going to lose my mind and give up until a new coffee shop opened just a few minutes from the house.Vylad and I went over to the coffee shop a few times for a change of scenery and we took a liking to it. That's when Vylad suggested that I should work here.
Thankfully, the shop were hiring (I didn't even know this until Vylad pointed it out). It was a perfect choice of a job. The food was enjoyable, just like how mom's cooking. The coffee was just perfect. It had a favorable aroma that entices you to drink it at one go. The beans were perfectly brewed. Not only that, the food tastes even more amazing after a sip of coffee. Not too mention that everything in this shop is reasonably priced. The surroundings is perfect for those who wants a change of scenery and those who wants to relax.
Tomorrow, Vylad and I are having a Christmas and anniversary party. We invited our families and friends. Christmas is probably one of the best time to get married. Why? If you have a party, you'll sometimes get anniversary presents from your guests. Don't tell anyone I said that though. This is a secret from me, Y/N L/N to you readers.
I really can't wait for tomorrow. It has been a while since I last saw everyone.
