A TALE OF LOVE...AND SORROW... chapter 2
So, as you can see, my dear grandchild, our relationship changed from that moment onwards; when I saw him I felt differently; whenever his skin would brush mine, my heart would skip a beat, and most of all; I had a feeling he felt the same way about me...
***
We were in math's class two days later, staring at the clock. The room was stuffy and humid and I was sure I wasn't the only one feeling sticky and in need of a shower.
I was sitting next to John, my designated place, and was trying hard not to sneak a glance at his eyes. I could feel them inspecting me constantly; gazing at my face, watching intently how I fidgeted or even if I fiddled with my pen. The he was forced to look away;
"Mr. Tavern?" Mr. Jenkins, our teacher, asked John. He didn't respond but continued looking at me. "Mr. Tavern!" Fury was building on our teacher's face so I glanced at John.
He seemed surprised I was looking at him straight in the face. It was the first time for two days. "John." I hissed as Mr. Jenkins began hurrying over to our desk.
John looked up at Mr. Jenkins as he was standing at his desk, looming over the fourteen year old boy.
"Mr. Tavern!" Mr. Jenkins shouted.
"Yes, sir?" John replied casually
"Are you finding something else more interesting than my class, Mr. Tavern? Perhaps Miss Mayfield's cheek over there?" Mr. Jenkins gestured towards my now reddened face.
John glanced over at me and smiled at Mr. Jenkins; "No, sir." He looked so amused.
"You sure, boy?"
"Absolutely...sir." John nearly laughed. Why was he acting so arrogant? It was so obvious he had been staring at me this whole time and now he's acting like I was some pile of rubbish he needed to stay away from.
"Right." He muttered, frown plastered on his face and stomped back to the front of the classroom. "Then, Mr. Tavern, what is the answer to the equation on the board?" Mr. Jenkins looked victorious.
"Erm..."
"What?" He gestured to his ear and leant forward sarcastically.
"Mr. Jenkins...the...um..." John cleared his throat and scratched his head slightly.
"What is the answer?" The thunderous maths teacher asked.
We had all noticed by now what John was about to say;
"The board is...blank, sir." John tried to hide his grin but it was apparent that HE was victorious.
Mr. Jenkins' eyes widened and his head snapped back and forth from the board to John, as if John had performed a miracle. He cleared his throat several times, tried to ignore the sniggers from the class and continued walking around the class.
"Now open your blue textbooks to chapter 12, class..." Mr. Jenkins continued. He purposefully passed John's desk, and when he did, he tapped his shoulder and discreetly ruffled John's hair. Everyone knew John was his favourite student. Ever.
