"Owen, what is Christmas?"
"What would prompt you to ask that?"
"It's a holiday celebrated a long time ago. We don't celebrate it anymore. It was the last thing I was reading about before I was forbade to enter the archives."
"It's a holiday, like many others. That's all I know." He looks down at the stack of papers in front of him. "Avery, we have to continue with the lesson."
"Can the lesson be about Christmas?"
"No, Avery, it cannot."
"Right."
Owen keeps talking and I take a piece of paper and start drawing Christmas trees and snow, what is snow? Our environment is conditioned regulated. Most the time it rains, the government tries to regulate how much time is spent outside by making it rain, a lot. Never snow.
I spend the rest of the day thinking about snow, and most importantly, Christmas.
