Chapter 5: Back to Normal?

When I woke up, my head was throbbing. I was in the same room that I was before, except now flames engulfed the room. The heat was excruciating. I got to my feet; I was surprised that I wasn't weak. I actually felt strong. Very strong.

"Anna, cough, Anna over here, please." I searched the room through the hazy smoke. I saw a man in the corner, trying to cover his face from the flames. I ran over to him; it was Dr. Baxter.

"Dr. Baxter! I need to get some help!"

"No, all of the formula must be destroyed. No one can be trusted..."

He was fading fast. The smoke was filling his lungs, but it wasn't bothering me.

"What are you talking about?"

"There is a video on, cough, your iPod, it will tell you everything. That bomb is going off in ten seconds, you need to get out of here, now! Cough, Go!"

There was no way I could carry him out on my own, I had to leave him. I felt terrible; but what other choice do I have?

I ran to the large metal door. It was bolted shut. The bomb should be going off any second now, how am I going to get out? I slammed my body into the door in a desperate attempt to escape, and it fell underneath me.

"What?" How did I do that? Suddenly an explosion came from the room. I was surrounded by fire, but I never burned. I picked up the door and slammed it into the frame. I didn't want to see what was Left, and i had a feeling Dr. Baxter wouldn't want anyone else to either.

The fire died down, and I sat down. I was wearing the clothes I was wearing before the procedure, but they were slightly charred. I didn't feel weak at all; I felt great. The lump on my side was gone.

I felt something tucked into my jumpsuit; it was my iPod. I pulled it out and unlocked it. A video was pulled up, and it showed Dr. Baxter. Was this the video he was talking about? I hit play.

"Anna, this is very important. Chris added something to my cure. It changed you, made you stronger, it also had some- other effects. I only wanted to cure cancer; he wanted a guinea pig to test his serum on. he needed my work to create it, and he fooled me into believing that he was trustworthy. That is why i had to destroy all of the information regarding the serum; including myself. I'm just glad you were the only one to receive it. You have tons of power running through your veins. It proves that the cure I created can never be used; bad people will use it to make themselves powerful. No one can know of your gift. You can do great things. I only hope you use your power for good. I don't know what Chris did with the remainder of his serum, but he will use it on himself; I guarantee it. He never knew your name and he didn't pay attention to what you look like, so you don't have to worry about him finding you or your family. I will admit that the hospital was not aware of your procedure; but I knew it would work and I knew you needed it. I just never expected- this- to happen. Don't even mention what happened. Just say that it went great and you're fine. They'll call it a miracle. You'll need to discover your powers on your own.

Good luck."

I shut my iPod off and sat in silence. My powers? I thought I had just been healed; but it was clearly more than just a miraculous healing.

When I returned to my room, Raven and mom were sitting where they where before I was wheeled away. When they saw me coming they ran to me, and flooded me with questions.

"Anna are you alright?"

"Do you feel better?"

"Is the tumor gone?"

"Woah woah woah! I'm fine! The cancer is gone and I'm better!" I said.

"You are? Anna that's great!" They said. They both wrapped me in a tight hug.

"Can we get you home now?"

"Yep! Dr. Baxter had- other business to get to, but he told me to tell you that I can go home as soon as possible."

We left out the main hospital doors and got into our car. I wanted to get some sleep; I had another normal day ahead of me- right?
