will byers
────it only took a few days for my mum to turn normal again.
normal, from her sad, gloomy self, anyway.
she doesn't know it was el, jonathan, and me who put that cake there, and hopper, apparently, hasn't made any denies about buying it, so she still thinks he did it.
that's all she told us.
today, max and lucas very kindly decided to invite me to third wheel them on a date down at the coffee shop, because max wasn't about to get ratted out by her shitty brother and lucas wasn't about to get ratted out by his bratty sister.
so, i very kindly said yes, only because i needed to talk to max.
"will, honey!," my mom calls out from the kitchen, as i fix my hair, brushing it gently to the side with my fingers. "h- hopper's here to take you down the street!"
"okay!," i shout, and sling my old canvas back over my shoulder, running down the hall, slamming my door behind me. i kiss my mum's cheek, softly, and she ruffles my hair. "mom," i whine, quickly fixing it as she grins. "have fun, sweetheart."
with that, i wall outside, shut the door behind me, and i'm instantly greeted with the chilly winter air, and hopper standing beside his car, ruffling el's hair, an unlit smoke in his mouth as el softly giggles.
she turns her attention to me, smiling widely. "will," she says. hopper turns around, nodding his head as a greeting. "hey, kid," he says.
"hey, chief," i smile. he grins, opens the car door, and el opens the back door for me. I slide in next to her, putting my seatbelt on, and hopper starts the car, the heater quickly warming up the small area.
"so, what are you doing today?," i ask el, who shrugs. "dustin and mike wanted to hang out at the arcade, and dustin invited me so i wasn't alone for the day. you?"
"lucas and max wanted to go on a date but needed someone to be with them so their parents wouldn't get suspicious," i grinned, and she laughed. "i'll talk to her for you," i say, smiling. she nods, and places her head on my shoulder, and i lean my head on her.
hopper quickly pulls up, and el stands up, walking me to the entrance. max and lucas are already in there, waiting for me. el stops at the doorway, looking at me, and slowly lets go of my arm, and i smile.
max looks towards us, and as she stands up to greet us, el turns away avoiding her glaze as she walks towards hopper's car, getting in, and they quickly vanish through the small buildings, around the corner, and i turn to max, who frowns.
i half smile back at her. "we need to talk later," i murmur, and she nods, and leads me back to the table where lucas is sitting. "hey, lucas," i smile. he grins, and shakes my hand gently, fist bumping me as well.
"hey man," he says, and turns to max who smiles nervously. "what should we order?," she says, quickly. lucas smiles, opens a menu, and i sit across from the pair, scrolling down my own menu.

────mike is really good at arcade games.
i, unfortunately, suck.
"you'll get better," dustin assures me, smiling widely. i shrug, sitting myself up on the table, crossing my legs. "no i won't," i frown, resting my head in my hands, staring at mike, who is concentrating so hard on the game he's playing.
"he's had lots of practice," dustin says, sitting next to me. i nod, and he hands me a slushy. "on the house," he murmurs. "not really, i bought it, but oh well."
i smile, widely, and grab the cold cup, take a sip. "thanks," i say, swallowing the icy liquid and sit it on the counter, jumping off the table, smiling at dustin, who smiles back, and walk towards mike, who stands at the bright coloured machine, mumbling to himself.
i stand beside him, and watch him play until the screen flashes in bright red colours.
"YOU'VE LOST
YOU'VE LOST
☹"i frown, and wrap my hands around mike's waist, who shivers at the touch, and lean ,y head on his shoulder. "hey, mikey," i murmur. he grins, turning around, kissing my head lightly. "hey, el," he smiles. "lucas said he saw you last friday, down the street with will and jonathan."
i nod, smiling and looking at my shoes. "was he alone? with max, i mean?"
"you can't be alone with someone," i giggle, and his smile softens and he pokes my stomach, grinning. "not what i meant, baby" he says, and i look away. "yeah, he was only with max," i smile. he grins. "of course he was," he says.
"he's so in love with her," he laughs.
"oh?" i ask, looking up.
"yeah," mike laughs.
"mike, how do you know you're in love with someone?"

─────"hey, hop? are you there?"
there was no answer.
"hop?" i knock on the door, gently.
i hear the sound of feet shuffling, and footsteps coming towards the door. then, the door flung open and i stand across from hopper, who looks like he just woke up.
his eyes look mad, and then upset, and then he sighs, pulling me towards him, shutting the door.
he leads me through his house, and before i knew it, we were standing on his balcony, staring out into the distance made up of trees and shrubs.
"i didn't put that cake there, joyce," hopper says, softly. "i'm not an idiot, i know it's too early, since, you know," he looks down. i sigh, gently. "then who did?," i murmur.
"maybe it was the kids," he says, softly smiling. "maybe, anyway. el was always bothering me a lot, saying that i loved you," he trailed off.
"do you?," i sniffled, and he looked at me, his eyes softening. "uh, yeah, joyce," he says, and i step closer to him, shaking.
"yeah, i do love you."
and then, time basically stopped as our lips moved in sync.
