Chapter 1
A knock at Trevaris' apartment door snapped him out of the daze he'd been in for the past several hours, consumed with playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on PlayStation. Checking the time on his phone that was laying on the coffee table, he realized it was just barely after eight in the morning, and he'd been playing since just after midnight. Pausing the game, he set his game controller down and went to answer the door.
"Hey, baby," Amina greeted, stepping inside.
"Hey," he greeted, kissing her on the forehead. "You look nice," Trevaris complimented, noticing she had a different haircut and color since the last time he'd seen her.
Trevaris hurried back to the living room, picked up his controller, and resumed his campaign.
"Damn, Tre," Amina sucked her teeth. "You're always on this thing, playing these stupid games. I thought we supposed to chill today," she frowned.
"We will, baby. Just give me like twenty minutes," Trevaris assured, refusing to peel his eyes from the TV screen.
Amina crossed her arms over her chest, pouting. "This is unbelievable," she said to herself. She sat back and got comfortable knowing twenty minutes was going to turn into an hour.
Relaxing back on the sofa, Amina then heard a door open from the back of the apartment. Her eyes grew wide when Trevaris' best friend walked into the kitchen.
"Ay, Tre, where's the milk? I swear I just bought some," Raquel asked, standing in front of the refrigerator, wearing nothing but a lace bra and thong set.
"Bottom shelf in the back," Trevaris answered without peeling his eyes from the TV.
Amina punched Trevaris in the shoulder while Raquel raided the refrigerator.
"Ouch! What's wrong with you?" Trevaris asked, momentarily glancing to the side at Amina like she was crazy. He briefly rubbed the sore spot on his shoulder before returning his attention back to the game.
"Why is she in your kitchen with no fucking clothes on?" Amina asked, seething.
Trevaris shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. "I don't know, probably about to pour herself a bowl of cereal."
Amina looked at him in disbelief then punched him again in the same spot.
"Got damn! Stop hitting me. That fucking ring on your finger hurts."
"You know what the fuck I mean. Why is she here...in your apartment...with no clothes on?" Amina clarified.
"Oh. A pipe burst in her apartment the other day. She been staying here until it gets fixed," Trevaris responded in a normal tone.
Amina snapped her head around to Raquel and then back to Trevaris. "What? And you didn't think you should've asked me if that was ok?"
Trevaris turned to Amina with furrowed brows. "Why?"
With a bowl of Lucky Charms steady in one hand and her cell phone in the other, Raquel joined Trevaris and his girlfriend of a few months in the living room and sat in between them on the sofa. She placed her cell phone on the coffee table in front of them and began shoveling spoons full of cereal in her mouth.
"Hey, girl," Raquel addressed Amina with a mouthful of Lucky Charms. "Insurgents behind you, Tre," she warned, watching Trevaris standoff against a swarm of hostiles on the video game.
