This summer we will be redesigning our category system. This is part one of many steps we are taking to create a quicker, more seamless discovery process for the Wattpad community. To prepare for these changes, we are making sure the stories in each genre are representative of the category.
We are beginning this process with non-fiction as it is an area that we want to focus on in the coming year, and it is a place where we are expecting a lot of growth. With this effort, we need to ensure the content is reflective of the category, so we will be reclassifying many stories that aren’t generally considered non-fiction. To begin, we will be re-categorizing your story as Random (the category formerly known as Other). If you have another preference that you feel better suits your story, then please let us know and we’ll see if we can make the switch for you.
As part of this change, we have amended our content guidelines to reflect these steps.
The new discovery system will emphasize tags as well as categories. We hope you will add new tags to make your story more discoverable. For example, depending on your story please add an appropriate tag like rants, jokes, quotes, contests, or interviews.
We are messaging any writer affected by this change for non-fiction, and the other genres as we continue this effort. One thing we want to emphasize is that this change does not affect your story in any other way, aside from the category and the ranking associated with that category.
