1943
"Mummy, there's an army man here, just like daddy!" a little boy yelled.
Neighbours peered out their windows silently. There was only one reason an army man would visit a residential house in Hamilton, and it wasn't anything good.
"Who is it this time?" an old man asked his daughter.
"James Carter," she replied, silently thankful it wasn't her husband while also hurting for her neighbour.
"Pity. He was a nice young man."
The young woman carried on watching until she heard a god-awful scream leave her neighbours lips. She couldn't watch as the woman she organised playdates for the children with broke down.
Hearing the screams made her pray for her own husband who was halfway around the world fighting someone else's war.

"Oh no, not another crash," an elderly woman said to her husband and their car came to a halt.
Flashing lights from the emergency service vehicles lit up the scene. A truck sat across the middle line on a blind corner, the front smashed. The barrier on the side of the road was split in two and a silver car sat in the creek below. A young fireman stood in the ankle deep water cutting open the drivers door.
"Don't worry," he said to the unconscious woman in the seat on the off-chance she could hear him, "we're going to get you out of here and you'll be okay."
The fireman cut the woman's seat belt in half before carefully lifting her out of the car. He and his colleagues carefully lifted the woman back up onto the road.
"She's not breathing," an older fireman said.
The younger man pushed him out of the way and began administering CPR.
To the young fireman, it seem to take a lifetime, but after a minute, he was able to bring the young woman back.
A/N: Hey everyone! So yesterday I had a pretty cool idea for a story that I really wanted to write so I am. I thought first I'd upload an epilogue to see if people would be interested in reading it. Let me know and I'll upload the first chapter although I want to write a decent amount before uploading too much. This will also most likely be the only authors note in the story but that's probably a good thing! You don't see too many of these in actual books.
Anyway, like I said, let me know if you want to read more and I will upload it for you!-Amelia xx
