A/N: I wrote this for a school project about the Holocaust. My topic was "Life in the Ghettos" and this is meant to be from the point of view of a child living in a Jewish ghetto.

I remember the day

The Germans came to take our homes away

They put us in a new place

Where six other families stay

Daddy says the war won't last

Mama and sister dream of the past

When the smell of fresh baked bread filled the air

Now it seems all we do is fast

My friends and I smuggle food

The Nazis we must elude

To bring home life to our families

We care not that our clothes our crude

Daddy was taken off the street

To work in the factories sewing sheets

Mama frets both night and day

Sister has her maker to meet

Then came the morning

Without any forewarning

The Nazis marched through the gates

The women began mourning

They told us we were leaving

I felt like I was barely breathing

As they shoved into cattle cars

I found I was silently weeping
