"A dance?"
I turned to my friend who was grinning and his hand was up, waiting for a high five, "Yeah man."
"I don't get it, you dragged me here to read about a dance?"
"Not just any dance," he said. "A masquerade dance."
I was still confused on why he actually cares about this. But by the look on his face, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with girls.
When he saw that I wasn't catching on, he said, "Think about it, it's a masquerade dance where everybody and I mean everybody will be wearing masks. It's gold!"
"You're saying that just because everyone's wearing mask, it's gold?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Dude, don't you get it? Every girl there will be wearing masks," he told me. "Now you've always been complaining on how those girls keep throwing themselves at you and always wanting you for the night. Well on that night, they won't even know who you are. You could be with one chick for an hour and then another for the next. You could hook up with so many of them on the same night!"
I rolled my eyes, "That's your plan? Hooking up with different girls?"
"Yeah, that's the best part! They don't know who you are means they don't go look for you the next day. It'll go great!" he said.
"How did I become friends with such a genius?" I grinned.
"Yeah, you're just lucky that I chose you man," he said, cockily. "Just make sure you keep your mask on. That's the important part."
We just got away from the crowd when Cassidy came up to us. She gave me a flirty smile which I returned. She came and sidled up to me.
"So Kyle got your date to the dance yet?" she asked, playing with her hair. I don't get why girls do that, don't their hands get tired?
But before I could answer, Joe cut in, "Whoa, whoa, we have to bring dates?"
"Well duh, you can't go alone," she replied. "Though it's expected from you, you can't seriously think that Kyle might want to go alone."
"What makes you think I don't?" I asked her, surprised.
"Well, I don't think you'd like to be alone that night. I mean Joe here is probably going to be with some dumb girl he met and I thought I might keep you company," trailing her hand up my arm.
"Thanks for your concern but I think I'll be just fine that night," I told her, pulling her hand away. "Hope you'll find a date soon."
"But Kyle-"
"Sorry I gotta go," I gave her a small wave and left.
Joe tagged along and I could hear his chuckles. I don't like it when girls suddenly decides things for me. It's my life. Yes, my parents may have planned what I'm gonna do after I graduate but while I'm in high school, I'm in control.
"That was fun," Joe said.
"Whatever man I gotta go to class," I told him.

I got home to see my parent were already waiting inside. That's rare considering they're usually busy with work and all those stuff. My little sister, Cindy ran in straight away to show Mum her latest art work from school. I followed in slowly but decided to skip my parents. Why bother anyway?
I snuck past them and managed to reached the stairs. I sighed in relief and we-
"Kyle? Come here for a minute," my dad called.
I groaned inwardly and forced a smile when I got to my parents, "Hey Mum, Dad."
"Honey, how was school?" Mum asked with Cindy on her lap.
"Fine," I shrugged.
"Son, we heard that your school is having a dance," Dad said.
I nodded, not really getting where this is going.
"Really? That's great! But you should get a new suit, your one is getting old and it's also out of season," Mum said.
"Kyle gets a new suit?" Cindy asked. "Can I get a new dress then?"
"Of course, anything for my babies," Mum said, rubbing her nose against Cindy's. I really don't get why they do that.
"Mum, I don't need a new suit cause I'm not going," I told her.
"You are going to that dance," Dad told me with a stern look.
"Wait, what? You want me to go?"
"We think it'd be best if you socialize a bit, dear," Mum said.
Socialize? Why would I socialize more when I practically own the school? I can do whatever I want and get away with it and people ask to hang out with me everyday.
"The only one you ever hung out is Joe and we think he's a bad influence and when was the last time you brought home a girlfriend?" Mum said. "We're worried about you honey."
I sighed, "Mum, don't worry. I'm fine, I have lots of friends and I don't bring home a girl cause there is no girl to bring home."
"What about that Casey girl?"
"Cassidy," I corrected her. "We're just friends."
"Good, I'm glad to hear that," Dad said.
"You are?"
"Yes, now do you know a Sara Rivers?" he asked.
"Um...no."
"No? Well she has brown hair and she doesn't wear spectacles," he said.
"Hate to break it to you Dad but there are plenty of girls who's like that."
"Well, choose whichever you one then," he said. "Just make sure her name is Sara Rivers."
Great, another set up from my old man. He has to stop using me to please his business clients. Not all their daughters are hot.
I held back the urge to roll my eyes and forced a smile, "Sure Dad, I'll do my best."
"That's my boy," he patted my shoulders, smiling proudly. "Someday you'll be leading the family name to greatness."
I kept on my smile and said, "Well, I got to study now so..."
"Right, right," he let me go and I quickly made my way to my room.
"Make sure you come down for dinner later," Mum said told me. "We're eating out."
"Take a proper shower," Cindy yelled at me.
I chuckled and shut the bedroom door behind me.
