~ 10 years old ~
"HYUNG RUN!" Changkyun said earning a giggle from his hyung who ran after him.
"I'M GONNA GET YOU!" Changkyun's mother said running after the both of them arms up in the air mimicking a scary monster.
Both boys were running around Changkyun's backyard, away from his mother. They laughed never getting tired.
"CHANGKYUN!!" Jooheon yelled as he fell to the ground after tripping on a rock, he lied on the grass extending his arm to his best friend so he could pull him up and they could start running again.
"I'LL SAVE YOU HYUNG!" Changkyun said grabbing the elders wrist and pulling him up dragging him to a tree so they could climb up and get away from the 'monster'. Jooheon being the oldest got on all fours so the younger could climb on his back to easy his way up. Once up Changkyun extended his arm to help his hyung up.
"Ah, clever kids" his mother said looking up and smiling at them. "C'mon get down, you both win." "Auntie, can we get ice cream?" Jooheon asked climbing down from the tree and helping Changkyun.
"Of course honey" she ruffled his brown hair and opened the backyard door for them to get in the house. They ran up the stairs to quickly go get their jackets and dashed to the front door to put on their shoes.
They drove to a small ice cream shop close to the beach and sat on the chairs outside eating and starring at the ocean as the waves rolled in.
"Momma can hyung stay for the night?" Changkyun asked happily eating his chocolate ice cream and getting some on his nose. "I'll have to call Jooheony's mother, but I'm sure she won't mind." She answered cleaning up the remnants of chocolate on her son's face.
After getting home Changkyun's mother called Jooheon's and she quickly agreed to her son spending the night at his friend's house. "Okay boys, I'm gonna go make dinner, you too wait here." She got up from her sit on the couch and headed towards the kitchen. Both boys were on the floor making a puzzle. "Hyung?" Changkyun asked looking up from the puzzle. "Hmm" Jooheon responded not looking up as he was incredibly focused on trying to find the woman's face for the puzzle. "We're always gonna be friends right?" "Of course, why wouldn't we?" Jooheon asked finally finding the piece and plopping it onto the puzzle looking up at his friend after with an eyebrow raised. "Even if I move out or if we don't go to the same school, we'll always be friends right? We'll still talk right?" Jooheon smiled at his friend who's head was hanging low. He dragged himself over to his side and hugged the younger tightly in reassurance. "We'll always be best buddies, always." He pulled away from the hug and smiled at his friend who smiled back putting his fingers on Jooheon's dimples. He quickly swatted his hands away. "Why do you have holes on your face?" Changkyun asked giggling "Because I'm cute and you're not." Jooheon said showing his friend his tongue and getting up. Both boys headed for the kitchen to help set up the table for dinner.
After the meal they watched some TV and went to bed at 10pm but of course they never fell asleep at the hour they were supposed too. They spent countless hours beneath the sheets with a flashlight, talking, telling stories. "Hyung can I confess something to you?" Changkyun asked his best friend hesitantly. "What's up Kyun?" Jooheon asked worried "Hyung I-I I like boys.. the way a boy should like a girl.." Jooheon looked at his friend with a smile and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "It's okay Kyun." "You don't think it's weird hyung?" "You're my best friend Kyun. I'll love you no matter what." Changkyun gave him a big smile and tried to hug his hyung. "Should we go to sleep hyung?" Jooheon nodded and both boys got out from under the covers, turned of the flashlight, and fell asleep.
~ 10 years later ~
"Hoe!" "Takes one to know one" "Whatever, are you gonna buy me coffee like you promised or were you just lonely and lied to get me out of the house?" "Changkyun, we've known each other for how long?" "25 years hyung" "Does that answer your question?" "Not really, there's still no coffee in front of me" They sat at a booth in a nearby coffee shop close to their college. "Don't worry you'll get it" Jooheon reasurred the younger ordering two Americanos. The weather outside was what could only be described as 'titty freezing', so both boys decided, well Jooheon decided he wanted a nice hot coffee to heat up said "titties", but felt lonely so decided to drag his best friend out with him.
"Wipe that sulky face or imma beat yo ass" Jooheon said looking at his friend "Are you still thinking about Minhyuk? He doesn't deserve you Kyun. He was a bigger hoe than Hoseok, but at least Hoseok has morals." Changkyun chuckled at his friend's words. His long term relationships had ended after 5 years. He found out Minhyuk was cheating on him after he saw him having sex with a guy through his bedroom window, they had a big fight and ended it right then and there. Changkyun wasn't exactly over the boy but he was trying his best.
"Kyun look at me." Jooheon said sternly, the younger had no other choice but to comply "He was a piece of shit and you don't deserve to be feeling like crap after what he did. Remember when you were living in America and I broke up with Jackson? I felt crappy as fuck but you helped me even though you were millions of miles away. Kyun I'm here for you, you know that right?"
The younger let out a sigh but nonetheless smiled up at his best friend nodding slowly. "I kown hyung, you're like my guardian angel" Changkyun smiled taking the coffee from the server. Jooheon smiled back trying to hide his shock after his friend's choice of words 'guardian angel', if only he knew.
