So it's been a week since I started avoiding Jayce due to that promise I made with Starla a couple of days ago. I wasn't easy. I'm telling you, it's not.
Whether I was far from him or not, there would always come a time when we would cross each other. There were chances that fate would try and make us talk but apparently, that was something I wasn't allowed to do.
Jayce was casual, even around me. And since he was, there were times that he would talk to me or touch me at most. I would always shake him off, of course. I would ran and act like nothing happened. After doing the same routine for days, I figured I wasn't going anywhere if he's friends with my friends, and most especially, with my cousin.
Believe me, I've been really trying my best to act casual at most, just so Jayce wouldn't notice that I was actually avoiding him. I wasn't sure if it's just me, or does he catch on fast.
It was Sunday and I was having my breakfast marathon in my kitchen. Glen was up stairs playing with his soccer ball.
As I was eating, I heard my front door opened. I didn't bother to look who it was, just because I just assumed it was my dad. I was too focused on my meal that I didn't want to be disturbed. My dad knew that whenever I ate anyway, so I guess I wouldn't offend him even if I didn't greet him.
Still eating, the figure that just got through my front door started to walk towards me. Again, I was still assuming that it was my dad. I assumed again that he was going to ask what I was eating today and he'd advice me to take it easy.
The figure just rested his elbows on my table. I didn't lift my head, so I was still assuming that this figure was my dad.
"I know what you've been doing," I heard him say.
And him, wasn't my father. No, this voice had a younger voice and I knew darn well that my father isn't young.
"You've been avoiding me." He spoke again.
I froze as I realized who it was. My appetite, long gone. And that was rare, which tells a lot how my insides felt like they just dropped on the floor.
"Care to explain, dollface?"
Jayce...
Hearing that nickname made me choke. I coughed madly as I thought I could die in any moment. I held my throat tight as my eyes started to gather tears.
When I pulled myself together, I was able to cough out the words; "What?"
"You've been avoiding me, haven't you?" His voice came out knowingly, obviously aware of what I've been doing.
"What?" I decided to play innocent just for the sake of not getting caught. "What are you talking about?"
"Oh don't give me that." He smiled, showing a bit of playfulness yet all the same scary and should be taken seriously. "You're avoiding me, Pippa. You have been, and it's starting to get to bother the fuck out of me so I want to know why."
Truth to be said, I wanted to pee my pants. I wasn't sure if he was aware of my mild hyperventilation but I could see that he gave no concern on this. He kept his ghosty eyes intense and he wasn't even moving at all.
"I—don't know what you're talking about." I tried to gather some confidence, hopefully it would help convince Jayce evn a little.
"Really?" He raised a brow.
"Really."
"Pippa."
"Really."
At this point, it didn't have to take a genius to figure out that he was already at his limit. He was flat out annoyed.
