I remember the day that changed the human race as a whole. It was the mid-spring day of April 23rd, 2017. I was with my friends on my way home from school when a bright purple light illuminated the sky. The whole sun had turned from a yellow to a purple in a matter of seconds. Everyone on the street froze, even the cars came to a halt as we all looked into direct sunlight in awe.
It lasted no longer than a minute or to be exact 63.3 seconds according to scientist recording of the purple phenomena the would be named Lavender Sky. On that day after the Lavender Sky, 925,481 women died all over the world with no connection other than the fact that they all were carrying female babies in their wombs. All of them over 6 months into their pregnancy.
The numbers only rose from that day on, the population quickly plummeted to 6.55 billion after a year. Most governments made it mandatory for any woman pregnant with a female fetus to have it aborted before the six-month mark. The mysterious plague that cloaked the world was given the name Mutation X. After the Lavender Sky, scientist found that all the female genes they've looked at were slightly mutated and this mutation caused them to be unable to go full term with a female fetus.
Unknown to the populace the government's around the world made a desperate attempted to find a woman who was immune to Mutation X. They sent out hoards of teams to collect blood samples from every female known to society. Schools, churches, businesses, they were set up everywhere and it was mandatory. If you resisted you risked going to jail or getting fined.
I didn't think much of it, I assumed like everyone else that someone else was going to figure it out. I just wanted to live my life as normally as possible, graduate, find a boyfriend, get married, move into a beautiful home and have children. I depended on someone else solving the issue in time for me to have my own children. That was a mistake. But I couldn't have know that person who was going to be the solution to the issue was going to be me...
