It had been a year since the Lavender Sky phenomenon and every day the news still talks about it. Updating everyone on the scientific breakthroughs even if it's just little ones. I don't really have much interest in it, the scientist seems to know what they're doing so it shouldn't take long for them to figure it out and fix this mess.

I was lining up with the rest of the female student body in the multipurpose room. It acted as a small gym and an assembly room most of the time. Occasional sappy dances here and there throughout the year. But today it was going to be a sample taking room. There were eight stations set up, two for each grade. I was lined up with the seniors like a good little girl and happily cooperated when it was my turn to take the needle.

A few girls resisted but after a stern talking to by one of the scientists or nurses they usually ended up submitting. No one really wants to be fined 100k just for not giving their blood samples. Once I was done I walked over to my friends, Amber and Jaz, who were sitting down together on the rows of chairs they have set out for us. I sat between them assuming the chair that was open was for me.

"I swear that nurse was like purposely stabbing my arm with the needle" Amber grumbled to Jaz as I put my backpack on my lap. " What happened?" I asked them curiously, Jaz giving a small giggle. "She got on a nurse's bad side" Jaz informed me as she looked over at the heated Amber with amusement.

"It's not even my fault, I was just trying to do the right thing," Amber's brows narrowed at Jaz.

"Amber telling a nurse she looks like a hippo is not "the right thing" " Jaz laughed out causing us to earn a few curious looks from the other girls.

"Okay, first of all, I said her purple scrubs make her look like a hippo, it had nothing to do with her weight" they continued to have their argument all the way to Lunch. Luckily for me, I was good at tuning them out.

We sat in our usual spot by the large windows on the west side of the cafeteria. I had a tray sitting in front of me with untouched food, spaghetti and a garden salad to be exact as I watched Amber and Jaz squabble but now the subject has changed from the nurse to sports. They've been like this ever since I first met them back in kindergarten.

Amber had always been a tomboy with a temper. She had short crimson red hair that was only long enough to cover her ears, it was in a boyish cut and always messy but that somehow worked in her favor. Her eyes were a deep green color, the same shade as a forest with little brown specs and ivory creamy skin to compliment it. When we were little, boys use to tease her, calling her the giant ginger because she grew faster than us and towered over most of the kids in our class. But now she's average height compared to everyone else, she grew into her long legs but she never really lost her flaming hot temper.

Jaz, on the other hand, was kind of the complete opposite of her. Calm, cool, and collected, was usually the words we used to describe Jaz. She had long dark brown hair that reached past her hip along with stunning light brown eyes that looked gold in the sun. Her skin was a warm toffee color while the freckles that were scattered along her cheeks and nose were just slightly darker. She was just a little bit shorter than both me and Amber at her 5'3 height.

We were probably the most unlikely trio in the whole school. Our personalities clashed and we had nothing in common besides each other but we are the best of friends, despite Amber and Jaz's constant bickering.

I smiled to myself as I watched them and they both glanced at me in confusion. "What?" They asked in unison. I let out a small chuckle and shook my head at them, "I was just thinking about how cute you guys are" I winked playfully and they both broke into grins.

The rest of the day went smoothly, during our last period on the intercom it was announced that the results of our samples will be released to us via mail within two to four weeks. No one was really that excited, a few people had already given the samples before and already knew their results. This was my first time giving my sample, I expect the same results everyone else has.
