Burning.
Burning fire is all she saw as the angels fell from Heaven. Her eyes widened in shock, watching the angels crash landing in several places near her, but many were falling elsewhere.
How in the world are all these angels falling from Heaven?
Deciding to check it out for herself, she tried to teleport back up to heaven, but to no avail.
What? How can it be? Heaven is sealed off, and now there's no way back home.
One year later...
Leaves crunched under her ankle-height boots as she wandered aimlessly through the forest, looking for an angel who had lost its way. Being a Sereph, she kept all her powers while she was on Earth, and since she was not in Heaven when the fall happened, she was not hurt. For the past year, it's been her mission to find any angel who is confused and lost and guide them back to her place of shelter. It's her only plan, since Heaven was still sealed off. A sharp eye and open ears didn't mistake her as she heard the flurry of running shoes, and she turned around to see an angel jogging out of the trees, seeming hopeless.
"Brother." She called, and he turned towards the sound of her voice, recognizing her immediately.
"Kyrene." He walked towards her, not the least bit hesitant as he approached her.
"Hello, Liev," She slightly dipped her head in greeting, her eyes fixed on his, "I can see that you survived the fall."
"Yes, but I have been severely injured. What about you, Kyrene? Have you been injured?"
"Brother, I was on Earth for the fall. I have not been in Heaven for approximately a century." She watched the angel with a close eye, seeing how frightened he looked. "What is wrong, Liev? You look nervous." He didn't meet her gaze as he spoke.
"When the angels were expelled from Heaven, I can't help but feel it was... evil. Some kind of negative presence was present." He slowly looked up and met her gaze, his eyes slightly widening. "Do you know what happened?"
"I have been trying to figure it out for the past year, Brother. Heaven is closed off and the angels are too frantic and too confused to try and understand what they are trying to say." He nodded hesitantly, seeming lost in thought.
"Come, Brother. I have other angels in a sheltered area. You may stay there too, if you'd like." She extended her hand in offering, a small smile curving her lips. He nodded and took her hand, and in a blink of an eye, they were in front of an abandoned warehouse.
"I have seven other sheltered brothers and sisters here. You may stay as long as you'd like." She watched as Liev walked towards the door of the warehouse, and as he opened the door, she turned around to teleport back to the forest. Right as she was about to make her departure, she heard the air leave his body before he even gasped. Whipping around, she teleported back to his side, slightly pushing him aside to see what the shock was about.
"No..." She whispered, barely able to utter the word. The seven angels she had promised protection and shelter to were lying on the ground, stab wounds from an angel blade through varying parts of each of their bodies. She walked towards the dead angels, kneeling down next to one. On top of him, whom she knew as Jun, was a small slip of paper. Written neatly in black ink, the three simple words sent a chill down her spine.
'The Sereph's Shelter.'
"Kyrene!" Liev's warning was cut short as she whipped around, seeing a blue light erupting from his mouth and eyes, a silver blade barely poking out from the middle of his chest.
"No!" She yelled, an angel blade dropping from the sleeve of her jean jacket, dodging to the side as an angel blade jabbed the air where her stomach had just been. Turning at an angle, she gripped her angel blade tightly as she stabbed the angel who tried sneaking up behind her in the stomach, a bright white light emitting from his eyes and mouth. She heard pounding footsteps as the other angel who killed Liev came after her. She turned to face him, her face scrunched in a display of fierce anger. He dodged her attack, instead counter-attacking and ripping open the sleeve of her jacket, the tip of the blade catching her skin. She let out a growl of pain but dodged another attack, grabbing his arm with the angel blade with her unoccupied hand and holding it above his head. She delivered a swift plunge to the stomach, the same bright light emitting from his mouth and eyes as the angel previous. She let him drop to the floor, her breath ragged as she examined her wound. It was already almost healed, being that the tip only grazed her skin, and didn't fully stab her. She hung her hand down to her side, surveying the scene. She knelt down next to the recently killed angel, her fingers softly running over his arm. She had known this angel, now that she got a more clear look at him. He was extremely loyal, even more loyal than her. But what had caused him to turn so violent? She remembered back to the ominous note. Whoever had written that note knew who she was.
And they wanted her dead.
((A/N. I know it's short, but it's almost 2:00am and I'm exhausted. I promise tomorrow's chapter will be much longer. Please leave feedback!! :) ))
