After being made fun of again by her coworkers, she decides to have her break earky and sit by her favorite tree. She has her packed lunch and opens it up. She packed a turkey, ham, and cheese sandwhich, apple slices with peanut butter, blueberry yogurt, a slice of her homemade cheesecake, and a bottle of apple juice. She looks up in the sky. It was a beautiful day in New York City.
She sighs in relief as she knows it was closer to the weekend, which meant thst she would have the chance to practice her music.
"Hey Rosaline!" Someone calls her name. She looks up. It was one of her coworkers name Sukiwara Chang. Suki doesn't make fun of Rosaline Mirza because she is already being made fun of because of her ethnicity. She is Blasian. Suki knew there was no point of making fun of someone else, so she became friends with Rosaline.
"Oh, hi Suki." She greets with a smile.
"Hey Rosie. You came here quite early, what's up with that?"Rose sighs as she puts her bottle down.
"They are making fun of me again. This time, I don't meet beauty standards for Malaysia." She explained. Rose was born in Malaysia to parents who were fully Malaysian. Her family moved here because they wanted to be closer to their siblings (Rose's aunts and uncles). Ironically, Rose has no siblings of her own....yet because they are expecting a future sibling in late March or early April.
"I don't have the typical Malaysian hair. My body is not fit for Malaysian standards. Next thing you know, my shoe size is not acceptable."Suki sucks her teeth in agitation. The coworkers here were pretty narrow-minded, retarded, and ignorant.
"How can they say such things when they are clearly not from Malaysia?"
"I don't know Suki. They're pretty stupid. I wish I can quit, but I cannot afford to do so. Rent is due next week and so is my electric bill." Rose lives in Harlem while her parents live in Manhatten. She didn't want to be a burden on her parents, so she moved out after getting her RN license. She works in the New York Presbyterian Hospital.
"Just one of these days, you can always quit after obtaining your bachelor degree in nursing soon."Rose shrugs as she offered some apple slices for Suki. She happily took some and chomped on them. Suki is a nurse anesthetist and is older than Rose by nearly a decade.
"Aren't you suppose to be in a operating room now?"
"No. I was given a break at this time. Thankfully, you're here. Otherwise I would eat on my own."
"You don't even have your food!" Rose exclaimed.
"Come with me to get something to eat." Suki offered.
"I shouldn't be here. I'm not even suppose to be on break."
"I got you covered, just come with me, please?" She begged. She sighs and gave in. It's surprising how even though Suki worked in the healthcare department longer than Rose, she would still act like a child. They end up at Jones Wood Foundry. Suki orders for herself. Rose would come back here later after her shift.
"How will you cover me?"
"I'm a CRNA, I'm kinda in charge today. Key word, kinda. Besides, they know who they're dealing with."
"Aren't you ridiculed?"
"Yes, but because my position is higher than the retarded coworkers, they still have to follow what I say. Especially if I'm the nurse in charge."
"Oh, that makes sense."
"Besides, you're with me, so you're in good hands."Rose chuckles at the statement. It's true because Suki is Rose's only friend.
"We should get going now." They cleaned and left to go back to the hospital. Fortunately, no one asked about Rose's sudden disappearance. Suki was called into the operating room.
"Well, there's going to be an appendix removal and I'm administering the anesthesia. I'll see you later."
"Bye Suki." Suki walks off, which left Rose alone.Rose finished her shift while Suki was filling out papers. She looks at Rose. Suki wouldn't be done until 9 at night. Rose only has the 8 hour shift, which was from 9-5 while Suki had shifts that varied.
"Going home I see."
"Yeah, it's been a long, dreadful day."
"At least you're off tomorrow. I have another 12 hour shift tomorrow. Then I'm off for the rest of the week."
"When do you go back?"
"Technically Wednesday, but I have to come back on Monday because I'm covering."
"Great. I'll see you Monday."Rose left the building and headed for the subway. Since everyone finishes at 5, she decided against her option to take her car. She took the subway to get home. Once she got home, she took a long shower and decided to get comfortable on the couch.
A/N-Another chapter posted. No one in the Presbyterian Hospital is cruel like that (I don't think). This is just pure fiction. Anyway, vote and comment.
