The morning was hell. Everyone wanted their coffee now. They all insisted that they've been waiting 15 minutes even though I just took their order. Taking a deep breath, I put on a smile and load the tray of drinks and deliver them to the patrons at the tables. "Hey! I got here before them! Why are they being served first?" some woman complained. I sighed. "Ma'am, I have all my orders organized by how they were taken. Their's was on top. When I get to yours, you will have your drinks. Please, I need to ask you to be patient. It's just me today," I try to explain. She huffed, but doesn't say another word. I smiled again and return to the register. "Hi, welcome! What can I get for you today?" I ask without looking up. My eyes were fixated on the list of orders in front of me and I absentmindedly tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. "Um, yeah, I've got a bit of a long order. I'm, um, picking up coffee for my coworkers," a male voice explained. I nodded, but didn't look up. "Well, it's going to be a bit of a wait to get out the orders in front of you. Is that alright?" I asked. He sighed, and I mentally adding this person to my list of annoying customers because they couldn't wait. "Yeah, as long as I actually get to drink it this time," he said with a small laugh.
My head flicked up. It was him. Ray. He looked as adorable as he did last time, except today he wore a green shirt with an electric looking x on it. I felt my face burn slightly, both from the crush and the embarrassment of spilling his coffee. "Right. Gavin and Michael's friend, right? I didn't catch your name last time you were in," I forced out, proud that I didn't pass out or throw up and just die. "Um, Ray. My name's Ray," he introduced. I smiled. "Well, hi, Ray. I'm Bianca. I'm Michael's stepsister," I explained. He nodded, then looked down at his phone. "OH! Right. Drinks. What can I get for you?"
He read me off the list of coffees and luckily they weren't special. I takes more time to remember which drinks need to be decaf or lactose free or whatever. He took a seat near the counter and started to play on his phone. I sighed, but began filling the orders for the customers before him. About five minutes later, I was finishing up his six drinks and placing them into carryout trays for him. "Alright. All of the cups are marked with names. Tell the guys I said hi and tell Michael to eat shit," I added with a smile. He laughed, then looked at me a little confused. "Wait, there are seven cups here. I only ordered six drinks," he said. I smiled a little bigger. "Yeah, well, I remembered that you didn't get your drink the other day because of me, so I added it on. no charge. Now you've got nothing over my head," I explained with a giggle. I quickly set the trays down on his table to try to prevent him from seeing how bad my hands were shaking. He shook his head a little and chuckled. "You're weird," he said quietly, before standing. He hesitated for a moment before pulling out his wallet and handing me a ten. "Here, you're pretty cool," he said, before grabbing his trays and walking out the door, leaving me standing there in awe. A moment passes and I finally regain my composure and make it back to the counter to finish out the rush.
Before I notice, it's 10 o'clock and Shannon's walking through the door. "Oh thank God," I cried as she makes her way around the counter. "Whoa, Bianca, are you alright? Where's Kev?" she asked, looking around. "Sick baby. I need a break. Breakfast rush by myself since 8. I'm dying here," I explained, crouched on the ground. She laughed. "Aright, go. I'll be fine," she permitted. I thanked her wordlessly and ran out the back through the kitchen and pulled out my phone. I quickly dialed Gav's number and listen to it ring, waiting for him to pick up.
"Hey B," Gavin greeted. I sighed. "Don't you guys do anything but work?" I asked. "Nope, but Ray bought coffee, which is cool, I guess," he said. I laughed. "Hey, wasn't too much for me. I got to see that cute barista girl again," Ray commented. I heard Michael's laugh. "Dude, you got some serious issues if you think Bianca's cute. She looks a- oof!" By the sounds of it, Michael got hit with something and I had to stifle a laugh. "OI! I'm on the phone, lads. And Micoo, be nicer to your sister. She's pretty, okay," Gavin defused the situation. Michael grumbled. "Well, I think the sounds of this is that things are going good for me, so I'll just go," I said, getting ready to pull the phone away from my ear. "Ay, yo, Gav, hold on. Can I ask Dan something?" I heard Ray ask Gav. "Oh, um, well.." Gavin stuttered. Before I knew it, Ray's voice was coming through the phone clearer than ever.
"Hey, Dan, you there?" he asked. I hesitated before responding "mhm" in the best Dan voice I could muster. "Okay, so, I'm not sure if this oaf has kept you updated on all of the sweet sweet juicy drama here, but I'm sure you know his friend and Michael's sister Bianca, right?" he asked. I nodded, then realized he couldn't see that, so just gave the same response. "Well, we've started going to the coffee shop where she works and she's so fucking pretty, man. Like, I get so fucking nervous talking to her. What do I say, or do, or.. I don't know, man. How do I make her notice me? I'm no good with girls, dude," he admitted. I sighed. What do I tell him? How do I tell him? I can't keep this up for long. "Gavin. Michael. Learn more about her through them," I answered, my Dan impression breaking slightly. "I guess. You feeling okay, dude? You don't sound good," he inquired. "Cold. Flu. Thing. Bye," I responded, hanging up. I took a deep breath and put away my phone, feeling simultaneously happy and nervous. He likes me, but he barely knows me. What will Gavin and Michael tell him? Why did I send him the them. I could have said to come here with flowers and confess his feelings, but we still don't know each other. Will he still like me after he learns more?
