Chapter Five

“You ready?” I asked, biting back a wide smile as I watched my brother bounce up and down impatiently on the spot.

“Aha!” he squealed eagerly, grabbing my legs for support, as if he were about to topple over from excitement.

“What’s going on?” Connor asked, entering the living room as he rubbed his weary eyes, clearly having just woken up.

He and Layla had slept over at my house last night, and had probably woken up due to the loud racket Liam was causing. The little kid had literally leapt into my bedroom at seven in the morning, yelling in my ear for me to wake up.

Ever such a calm, peaceful way to wake up in the Moore abode…

Before I could even utter a word in response to Connor, Liam let out another squeal of anticipation as his grin widened further.

“Tell me! Tell me!” he cried. “What’s my present? What is it?”

Connor’s mouth formed an ‘o’ in understanding. Layla snorted from beside me. “Took you long enough,” she couldn’t help but tease her boyfriend. I sighed, returning my gaze back to Liam.

“Are you su-re you’re ready, though?” I asked again, trying to wind him up.

“Yes! Yes!”

“Hmm…I’m not too positive about that. Are you one hundred percent sure y-”

Sissy!” he squealed impatiently, stomping his foot down as hard as he could on the ground.

His tiny foot barely made any more noise than it usually did. I could sense a smirking Connor pacing slowly towards us.

I laughed. “Alright, alright. Hold on then.”

I fought back another smile as I noticed Liam pulling a face as I turned to walk out of the living room, his expression gloomy.

“I’ll only be a minute, Liam! Just wait a second; I’m going to get it now!” I laughed as Connor had to literally stop my brother from wandering after me.

“Sissy…what is it?”

“What does it look like, buddy?” Layla chortled, sat beside me, smiling at the little boy currently sat comfortably on my lap.

“A piece of paper,” Liam stated smugly, as if it were the most intellectual thing anyone had ever said.

A-nd?” Connor prompted, sat on the other side of me on the sofa.

“It’s white…?” my brother replied, frowning slightly as he cast a perplexed look over at Connor.

I shook my head, my lips pursed. “Liam!”

“Is it…cash?” Liam asked, the word sounding foreign on his lips. He almost made the paper in his hands seem as if it were filth, as he picked it up from one corner.
