                                                                            🌸Carly's POV🌸
It was the first day of school and my senior year. I wasn't ready for all of the schoolwork to be thrown at me once again and seeing all of the cliques I have avoided over the summer. This summer was the best. My best friend, Devin Miller and I had both stayed in town. We both equally hated Oakland, the town we lived in. The only way we got through this town, was by having each other. Our summer days together consisted of watching movies on my projector as we sat on my roof, people watching at the town beach and our many inside jokes. Even though we were best friends, we couldn't be more different. I always did my homework, while he never did. I walked down the crowded hallway, when I saw a familiar face standing with a new girl. Devin leaned against a locker looking nervous as ever talking to the unidentified girl. He was wearing a plain black tee, a few rubber bracelets and a necklace. He also had no backpack in site, which was not unusual. I followed the rules, while he enjoyed breaking them. I studied for tests, while he didn't and hoped luck would help him pass. She had naturally red hair and was wearing a shade of dark pink lipstick. She wore a black sweater with a brooch attached to it and had on a black choker. I then walked up to them. "Hey Dev." I said to my friend. He then saw me, "Hey Carl. This is Adelaide." He looked nervous, which was an unusual sight for my confident best friend. I then looked at the girl who stood to my right. "Hey Adelaide, it's nice to meet you. I'm Carly." I said with a smile. "It's nice to meet you too. Are you the person who was assigned to show me around the school?" She asked, as I saw Devin in the corner of my eye glancing at her. "Ya. If you have any questions you can ask either me or Devin." I said glancing at him. He looked nervous as ever. "Ok thanks guys. I already feel at home here." She smiled at both of us. She then took out her schedule and glanced over it. "Do any of you guys know where Chemistry with Mr. Blake is?" Adelaide asked. "Me. I'll help you find it." I smiled. "Ok sweet."She replied. We both said bye to Devin. We then walked up the stairs searching for the class. "So Adelaide where are you from?" I asked curiously. "Minnesota. My family and I moved here because my dad got transferred." She answered. "That's good. At least you got to move somewhere warmer." I replied. We then got to the classroom. "Ya. So what's up with you and Devin?" She asked. "Just friends." I said. I then began to walk off. "Wait, Carly?" She said causing me to turn back around. "Let's keep it that way." She said. We then parted ways as she walked into the classroom.
....
I got home and relaxed on my bed. I lied down and stared at my ceiling as many thoughts began to fill my head. What Adelaide had said to me today was really bugging me. I then decided to text Devin.
