Adalia woke up lying down with her face in the dirt. She felt nausea churning in her stomach and a sharp pain radiated from the back of her skull.

She groaned and when she tried to sit up, she found her hands were bound with a rope. Suddenly, the memory of the fight in the woods made its way in her head. She quickly rolled over and bent to feel for her dagger with her bound hands.

No, this must be a mistake. She frantically prodded her leg where the dagger should have been, but she felt nothing. She started to lift her skirts, trying to find it. She knew she had put it on before she had left.

"Looking for this?" The feminine voice she had remembered hearing from her attacker asked from a distance.

Adalia turned her head towards the voice and saw a woman holding the dagger out in front of her by the hilt.

The woman's face was hidden, all except for her grey eyes behind a black wrap. Adalia could see tiny wisps of blond hair sticking out around her eyes as if she had put the wrap back on carelessly.

Adalia said nothing, she just stared into the eyes of the woman holding her only weapon.

After a moment, Adalia leaned back, resting against the trunk of the tree at her back. She kept silent, only stared.

After a long pause in which she thought would never end the woman took a step closer.

"Why were you out here?"

Adalia didn't speak.

"You are going to tell me what you were doing out here!" The woman shouted at her.

Adalia closed her eyes tightly, the throbbing pain in her head getting worse as the woman continued to shout in her shrill voice.

"Why were you hunting us?"

"I wasn't hunting you. I already told you that." Adalia finally shot back at the woman.

The woman pulled the wrap down, revealing her snarl as she stormed towards Adalia sitting on the ground.

"You speak lies. Now tell me." Her voice became low, the words almost sounded like a threat.

"I have told you know lies, I only speak the truth." Adalia said, lowing her tone to match the woman's

The woman hissed at her, and Adalia felt a strong stinging pain on her right cheek that had caused her head to whip to the side.

She gasped as she realized the woman had just hit her. There was a strong metallic taste in her mouth and turned her head to spit, seeing her saliva tinged with red.

Adalia glared up at the woman looming over her, meeting the woman's cold steely gaze.

"Karissa! That is enough, what are you doing?" A male voice carried towards them from behind Adalia. Adalia didn't trust the woman enough to turn her gaze towards the voice.

"I have caught a witch. She was hunting us!" The woman, Karissa shouted.

"I have told you, I was not hunting you!" Adalia shouted at the woman.

She had raised her hand up to strike Adalia once more, but the man grabbed her wrist.

"Let go of my Khole." She sneered at the man.

"I will not let you strike another woman in front of me." The man's light blue eyes met her grey ones holding firm.

The man's face was guarded with a wrap as well, only his eyes visible to Adalia.
