Now, this may seem like it's a page ripped from a fantasy, romance book, but maybe it just was.

"Why didn't you fight back?" He asked, strolling down the hallway, glaring at the late students staring at our sight for sore eyes.

"I wasn't about to fight my best friend." I whisper-talked. I clenched my fist and bit down on my lip.

"She didn't seem that good of a friend from where I was standing." He mumbled angrily. I feel his muscles strain in frustration.

"Not anymore." I mumble, playing with the zipper of my jacket. My eye throbs heavily.

"You seem so nonchalant about the whole situation. You don't seem very much in pain." He looks down into my eyes, stride faltering a bit. "Your eyes are golden," he states quietly.

"What? No they're not. Trick of light probably." I turn my gaze to my bouncing, white Converse shoes.

Thomas stops walking. "They are golden." he says a tiny bit louder.

God damnit. "I can explain-" I start quickly.

"You're one too?" he interrupts.

"Wait what?" I gasp.

"You're a-" we say in unison.

"Vampire-?" he chokes.
"Wolf-?" I stammer.

A moment of dead silence hangs in the air.

His gaze slowly turns to hatred.

My gaze slowly turns to confusion.

"You killed my family." he hisses. My grip tightens on his arm. "N-no, T-tom.." I mumble.

Thomas puts me down quickly and steps away. Color leaves my face and I pale. "I-i'm n-not.." I whisper.

"We have to stay away from each other." His voice cuts through mine. "For both of our own good."

My knees hit the floor. I see him falter and try to step closer to me, his soccer jersey shaking. He doesn't.

"I'm sorry." he mutters.

And with that; he was gone.

Tears stream down my face. I hear myself choke out a small sob. I thought he understood.

"Griffin!" I hear from behind me.

I rotate on the ground.

It's Jay. His football cleets hit the floor in immense speed. He slides on his knees next to me. "We leave you for one freaking day and you go and get yourself beat up-" he growls, picking me up onto his back. "Whoever did this, I'm going to-" he grumbles, running down the hall towards the exit.

"Not important. Let's just get home." I cling to his neck for dear life as he rips open the door and speeds to the forest where this nightmare had begun.
