Korraeth and his sister are spending Winter's Veil together. And though their celebrations are quiet, they're sweet.
This is a World of Warcraft short story I wrote in celebration of Christmas. I dearly hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed...
It was the Eve of Winter’s Veil, and all was merry and bright. Korraeth was celebrating with a quiet evening in Dalaran. He was sat on the floor in the library in the Chamber of the Guardian reading. Laeyarah, of course, was sat on one of the benches, also reading, with her brother in sight, out of the corner of her eye. Many hours passed as the two quietly shared in one another’s company. The silence didn’t quite bother them. Not to mention that the loud parties they could hear going on above ground weren’t the sort of thing they were into. And seeing as they didn’t usually get to relax like this, whether it be because of the conflict between the Horde and the Alliance or because of the war they were currently fighting against the Burning Legion, they were more than happy that they were able to spend time together like this, having each other near without fear of persecution nor that they were going to be dragged away to complete duties for their respective orders. Eventually, though, Laeyarah found she was feeling rather sleepy. Knowing her brother was quite the walking hot-water-bottle, she decided to go and sit next to him, snuggling up to him as he read. Korraeth was just fine with this, wrapping his arm around his sister and proceeding on with his book. Although, after a while, he inevitably found himself putting his book down and picking the younger elf up and carrying her over to one of the sofas on the upper floor of the central room before laying down and snuggling up with her and finding himself slowly drifting to sleep. He was much too tired to look for somewhere else to rest – they both were - and thusly had decided this sofa in which they now lay was just right. They slept for several hours, curled up together to keep warm, much like kittens. And for the first time in what had been a great, many, many years, they felt safe, and calm, and that everything was just right.
