"FEMUR FRACTURE, POSSIBLE INTERNAL BLEEDING, BP DROPPING."
The blaring siren of the approaching ambulance pierced the otherwise still night, a wailing herald of urgency and impending crisis. The ambulance screeched to a halt outside the emergency room, and the double doors swung open.
The fluorescent lights in the hospital cast a stark, glaring light on the linoleum floors, intensifying the urgent atmosphere of the emergency room. Nurses, dressed in an array of colored scrubs, moved with practiced efficiency, their faces showing concentrated attention. The sharp scent of antiseptic filled the air, blending with the faint, rhythmic beeps of medical equipment that echoed like the heartbeat of the hospital itself.
Nurses were already on high alert when a sudden commotion erupted in the hallway. Urgently, a team burst through, pushing a gurney at breakneck speed toward the ER. On it lay a woman, pallid and streaked with blood, her body motionless from the trauma she had endured.
Her hair was matted, and her clothes were torn from the violent impact of the car accident. Her chest rising and falling shallowly with each breath, her limb contorted at unnatural angles. Deep lacerations and bruises marred her skin.
A paramedic shouted vital statistics to a swarm of doctors and nurses, who immediately began assessing her injuries.
"We need to stabilize her vitals. Prep for a blood transfusion and get radiology on standby!"
The urgency in the paramedic's voice underscored the gravity of her condition.
The medical team operated with unerring precision; their actions synchronized as they worked to stabilize the woman whose life teetered precariously on the edge. Intricate networks of tubes and wires connected her to an array of machines, their rhythmic beeps and whirs a constant reminder of her fragile state.
Then, the steady hum of the ER was abruptly disrupted by frantic footsteps and a voice laced with panic.
"Where is she? Where's Y/N?" Satoru's voice reverberated through the corridor as he burst into the emergency room. His appearance mirrored his inner turmoil—hair in disarray, clothes rumpled and stained, sky-tinted eyes wide with fear and desperation. He had driven with reckless abandon, flouting every traffic law in his frantic rush to the hospital. The image of the woman he cherished, haunted his thoughts, each mental replay more torturous than the last.
He was at fault. He blames himself for his words to her.
"Satoru!" Suguru's voice cut through the pandemonium as he trailed closely behind, but Satoru was oblivious to everything except his own anguish.
Satoru stood momentarily paralyzed as he took in the sight of her seemingly lifeless form as she was being attended to by the medical professionals, but the shock quickly morphed into action. He darted forward inside the ER, his mind racing to catch up with his body, trying to reach the gurney as the medical team pushed it further toward the trauma room with alarming speed. His gaze remained locked on Y/N, his heart pounding so violently that it drowned out all other sounds.
A nurse stepped in to stop him, but Satoru brushed her aside effortlessly, his eyes never leaving Y/N. He reached out, his fingertips barely grazing her hand before another nurse blocked his way.
"Sir, you need to step back," she commanded, her voice firm yet sympathetic.
Unfazed, Satoru shoved her aside.
"Y/N! Y/N, it's me, Satoru! I'm here." His voice cracked, the desperation evident as he strained to reach her, only to be restrained by a group of nurses. "Hang in there, please!"
The man who once embodied unshakeable confidence and strength now found his world reduced to chaos. Satoru, who had faced countless dangers without flinching, stood powerless, his composure shattered. Each step toward Y/N felt like a struggle against an insurmountable wave of fear and helplessness.
Another nurse blocked his path. "Sir, you need to wait outside. We need space to work."
"No. Can't you understand?" Satoru tried to force his way through, his mind a chaotic whirl of panic and fear. "I need to be with her! Move out of my way!"
"Sir!" The nurse's tone was firm, and her grip on his arm was surprisingly strong. "You are not helping her by being here. Let us do our job!"
He was about to force his way into the room when Suguru grabbed him by the arm, helping the nurses escort Satoru out. This earned Suguru a fierce glare from Satoru, whose hands clenched into tight fists, his knuckles turning ghostly white.
Satoru's movements became frantic, his gaze never leaving Y/N as she disappeared behind the trauma room doors completely. He felt as if the ground had been ripped from beneath him, his legs giving way as he sank to the floor, his breath coming in ragged gasps.
"Satoru, we have to let them work. They'll do everything they can."
His orbs staring at the covered glass door, as if hoping for a sign, a miracle that would save his heart from being engulfed by grief. Suguru placed a reassuring hand on Satoru's shoulder, watching as tears silently traced their paths down Satoru's cheeks.
Suguru had never seen him this desperate before. There had been moments of despair, but never this profound, and it made Suguru deeply worried.
"I can't lose her."
"Not like this."
