Ginny ducked as a Dung-bomb bounced away from the door leading into the kitchen, and went soaring over her head.
It was early August and the Weasley's had been at Grimmauld Place for several weeks. Hermione had joined them as well, but Harry, upon Dumbledore's request, spent his most of summer with his aunt and uncle until he had a run-in with two dementors. He was supposed to arrive a Grimmauld place that night, but Ginny had yet to see him yet.
The majority of their time in the old house had been spent cleaning. And when they weren't cleaning, the Order was holding a meeting while Ginny, Hermione and the boys tried to overhear what they were saying. Fred and George's Extendable Ears were revolutionary in their attempts to eavesdrop, but the last time they'd tried to use them Mrs. Weasley had caught them. Fred swore his ears were ringing with her yells all week. They hadn't risked using them since.
That night was a major meeting. Severus Snape had come to give a report, and they wanted to hear it, none of them trusted him. But Tonks has warned Ginny that the Extendable Ears might not work. Tonks said that Ginny's mum might've put an Imperturbable Charm on the door, and Ginny could find out by chucking things at the door and seeing if they made contact. So, acting on Tonks' tip, Ginny seated herself on the top of the staircase and started flicking dungbombs (which she'd swiped from
Fred and George) at the door. They all soared away from it."Damn," muttered Ginny. "She's charmed it for sure."
Ginny chucked a few more dungbombs for good measure, the stood, brushed off her dirty hands, and, leaving the floor littered with dungbombs, climbed up the first flight of stairs. She had to let the others know that the Extendable Ears wouldn't work.
On the next floor, Ginny paused by a long row of house elf heads. There was the far off sound of yelling coming from upstairs. Was that Harry?
"BUT WHY SHOULD I KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON? WHY SHOULD ANYONE BOTHER TO TELL ME WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING?"
If it was Harry, he sounded really angry. Ginny decided to visit Fred and George first.
She continued climbing up to the third floor where Fred and George's bedroom was, but the twins weren't anywhere to be seen. But there was a pile of letters lying on George's bed from his "friend" Helen (for a second Ginny considered reading one; George had read one of the letters Ginny received from her boyfriend, Michael, but Ginny liked Helen and didn't want to read a letter she'd written for George only) and a spilled box of Bertie Bott's every flavored beans was on the floor, so it appeared they'd left rather spontaneously.
"That must've gone down to Ron's room," huffed Ginny.
Back down stairs she went. The yelling had stopped. Ginny pushed open the door of Ron's room.
There appeared to be a gathering going on. Ron and Hermione were standing side by side, both looking very tense, while Fred and George both had hands full of flesh colored string. And there was Harry Potter, his hair even messier than usual, glowering at everyone.
"Oh hello, Harry," said Ginny brightly. "I thought I heard your voice." Harry didn't say anything. Ginny turned to the twins. "It's a no go with the Extendable Ears, she's gone and put an Imperturbable Charm on the kitchen door."
George's face fell. "How do you know."
"Tonks told me how to find out," said Ginny. She explained what she had done with the dungbombs.
Fred sighed. "Shame. I really fancied finding out what old Snape has been up to."
"Snape?" said Harry. "Is he here?"
"Yeah," said George. He closed the door and sat on one of the beds. "Giving a report. Top secrete."
Fred followed George. Ginny sat down on the bed beside them both.
