Elle woke up late this morning, meaning that she'd snoozed her alarm way too many times and ignored her dad's shout as he left for the police station. It also meant she had only ten minutes until her friend, Will, came to walk to school with her.

"Shit, shit, shit, shit." she swore, under her breath as she pulled out a clean school uniform, her white blouse, navy skirt with the school logo on the hem, and a pair of navy tights. She pulled on her uniform quickly, thankfully she didn't rip her tights.

She clipped on her tie, in her house colours, yellow for Rylands, and pulled on her blazer, which had the logo in yellow on the breast pocket, as she ran to the bathroom to brush her teeth, and wash her face.

The doorbell rings while she's flying down the stairs, she's sure that Will could hear the bang when she hit the floor after falling over halfway down and consequently falling on her face. Her fear is confirmed when she opens the door to a laughing Will.

"Oh shut up, Will" she snarks, jokingly annoyed.

Will is hardly holding back tears, and has to keep taking gasping breaths, "Did you have a nice trip? You should send me a postcard next fall."

"I hate to say it, but you're the worst," Elle says as she locks the front door behide her,  "Oh wait, no I don't."

The pair think of each other as siblings and they very nearly are. Elle's dad and Will's mum are dating, but everyone knows that the Chief's going to propose to Joice soon. Also, Will and Elle have known each other a almost all of their lives, meeting when they were very little. They'd both gone to the same group therapy, to deal with their abusive birth fathers. They'd immediately become inseparable, spending their days at others house and becoming as thick as theives. People used to say they'd make a cute couple until Will had come out as gay and shut all those rumours down.

Finally, the pair reached the school and had to seperate for form, but they had second period together. Elle walked through the semi-busy corridors to her form, where she'd saw her friend Max, awkwardly standing next to their bench.  It'd been raining on the way to school so their bench was wet so they had to stand while they waited to be let into school. Well bench is a generous tem for it, it was more of a wooden square, bolted to the ground after way too many accidents.

"Hey, Maxerino, how you beenino?" Ella had met Max in year seven when they were sat next to each other in form, and somehow ended up in all the same classes. They'd become quick friends after spending all day together and finding they'd clicked very well. Max with a protective (read: violent) streak which got her into trouble, and Elle with her charm people into not getting beat up by Max.

The only thing they never agreed on was Elle's constant stream of nicknames. Each and everyday she would come up with a new and wonderful (read: terrible) nickname to call Max.

"Honestly? I was doing good until you came up and called me that stupid nickname." Max complained, rolling her eyes at her.

"Aw, I'm sorry Maximum." Elle pouted at Max, "Do you still love me?"

"It's debatable" Max grumbled, but Elle knew her best friend and she knew that that meant she loved her, so she beamed up at her. Max really did tower over her, she was 5'9 where as Elle was only 5'3, the bell then rang and their teacher opened the door, letting them in for morning form. Morning form was only five minutes long and just the teacher trying to turn on a computer, eat breakfast, and get ready for their first class. The register was rarely taken until afterwards.
