I was trying really hard to be as calm as possible. I didn't want to scare Bella, but I needed to get her away from this place. Needed to get my hands and eyes on her, make sure she was ok. I tugged her in close and we headed back out to my truck. A police officer was about to write me a ticket for being double-parked, but one look at my face had him mumbling a "nevermind..." as he walked the other way. We hopped in the truck and I was hauling ass out of town when Bella finally spoke. "I'm sorry." She said, a near whisper. I was still in a rage, as I glanced over at her. "Why are you apologizing?" My voice was still a bit deeper and harsher than I would've liked. "I'm sorry I called you. I didn't mean to make you angry." A sob slipped out and her voice cracked. I hit the brakes and whipped the truck over to the side of the road. "What are you talking about?" I asked her incredulously. Bella sniffled pitifully and dropped her eyes to her lap. A big fat alligator tear plopped down onto her folded hands, and her little body shook. "Bella..." I softened my tone. Nothing. I got out of the truck and walked to her side. When I opened the door and tugged her out, she came willingly, head still ducked low. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Bella cried. "I didn't mean to make you angry at me." She sniffled, her arms wrapped around herself. I sighed and dropped the tailgate. I lifted Bella onto it, and stepped into her personal space. "Bella look at me." She slowly rose her eyes to mine. "I'm not upset with you." I spoke calmly. "But-" I cut her off then. "I'm furious. Livid. Angry as hell. But not at you Bella. Never at you sweetheart. Bella, the thought of you being afraid, or bullied, or threatened.. well that just don't sit well with me." I explained. "So you're not mad that I called you?" She questioned hopefully. "Come here baby girl." I smiled at her. I spread her thighs and stepped between them, wrapping her up in my arms. "Sweet Bella, I'm glad you called me. Now dry those tears, and let me make you feel better." I rumbled as I nuzzled her hair. She sighed happily and relaxed into me. Bella tilted her head up and I peppered her forehead with kisses. I felt her body go lax as her sniffled stopped. Whipping the tears from her cheeks with the pads of my thumbs, I smiled down at her. "Feeling better?" I asked. She nodded and gave me a shy smile. "Burger time?" She asked. "Nah, takeout and snuggle time. Let's grab something quick and head back to your place. I just wanna hold you baby." I answered honestly. Bella's cheeks went pink and I got a blinding smile. "I've got leftovers from supper last night if you're up for it. I'd really like to get to the snuggle part now." She blushed. "That sounds perfect pretty girl. Let's roll." I pecked her lips once, twice, three times before I loaded us back into the truck, and headed in the direction of Bella's apartment.
