"Divide the factor by 10,567 which is .000645. Aaaaaand finished." Erin slapped the bell and sat down for her next team mate to go.
"Nice job! You got us a next head start." Drew whispered to her. Looking around the room, she can see the techno lights and multi colors walls. Strangely they always annoyed her. Brightness and colors.... Not good for learning. Many posters read encouraging saying like, "You can do it!" or "You are awesome!" There was a shelf that ran across the colorful walls. On top, lots of little trophies sat around, collecting dust. Red ones, blue ones, the whole lot. Her team would get recognised by the whole school as the best team ever if they won a mathletes championship, which hasn't been done since 1970. It felt artificial, like a forged painting. The teacher always had a plastered smile on there faces. Also spouting the motto, "Everyday's a great day to be a Peterson Panther." Well mostly the principal, he liked to make the school a safe zone. Like his messages would change the competition of our school. It was hard for the students that did not major in a academic. They were seen as dumb or useless. If they weren't the best the academic kids would bully them.
A blue tipped, black haired, exchange student, started solving his problem. He was about 5"10 with a button up plaid shirt. His problem was a Geometry and topology, one of Erin's weaknesses and appearing to be one of his strengths. "Maybe he could join our team," Erin pondered. He rung the bell but it was too late, Erin's team had already won.
The team jumped up and most of everyone hugged each other. Erin is just a little claustrophobic so she did a solid high five with everyone.
Mr. Mason started over to them and congratulated them. " Nice job! Nice Job!" He gleamed with happiness, "Especially you Erin, nice speed with that trigonometry problem."
"Well my team did pretty well also, I could not have done it without them." Erin responded, turning to smile at her team.
Her team consisted of four people. Lauran, Drew, Gabe, and herself.
Lauren is a short girl, only 4"10, short blond hair, and weird round glasses. Her glasses looked like they belonged on harry potter, although her eyes were very pretty. A nice gray blue, like stormy orbs.
Drew is a very tall guy, he is 6"5. Charcoal, longish, black hair, tan skin and eyes a muddy hazel. A sense of humor like no other.
Gabe is well... Gabe. His eyes and skin are plain chocolate brown. Hair always combed perfectly. Square lenses and an annoying voice. At least, everyone thinks the sound of his voice makes his teacher fall asleep.
Erin thanks Mr. Mason and starts to pack her bag. The boy that was a solving master came up to her as she was walking out.
"Hey, good job that trigonometry problem. That is one my many faults." He said in his spanish accent. "Oh and the name is Martino and you are...?"
Erin remembered reading about him in the "New student" newspaper.
Martino was born in Teruel, Spain, the capital of Aragon, a beautiful town full history and beauty. He started showing gifted skills at age three. Reciting bedtime stories from night before word for word, spelling large words like Desacostumbradamente and sobresaliente.
His mother did not have much money, so getting in to this school with a full-ride was a blessing from the heavens for him.
She responded with "Erin is my name. You did exceptional job on your equation, you should definitely join our team. I will give you call from my cell phone. I will also provide you with a number of a friend I know so you can get to know more people."
"Sure," He looked puzzled at her frowardness," See you then Erin. I guess" They exchanged numbers and he walked away.
Erin grabbed her books and raced back to her dorm so she could maybe wash up before lunch.
