Heyo! It's Winter here with the first part to this book! I'm writing a classic Dadvid part for this because who doesn't love the idea of David being Max's dad?
BTW this talks of child abuse. Be warned.

Max sighs, setting his bag down. Today was the last day of camp and everyone's parents would be here soon to pick their children up.
Max's jade eyes scan the area looking for a way to escape. Seeing none, he sighs and pulls his knees to his chest. Him leaving the Camp was inevitable, there was no escape. Despite the kid always complaining and hating everyone, he was secretly going to miss this camp.
He may have hated it here, but what he would never admit is that he hated his life more back at his home. It's was living hell for him.
" Max! Are you coming? " He hears Nikki's voice call from outside his tent. Slowly, he takes a deep breath, stands up, and walks out of the camp.
Everyone lounges around waiting for their parents arrival, which only makes the ten-year-old more nervous.
" You good? " Neil notices his odd behavior.
" Huh? What? " Max turns to him. " Oh, uh, yeah. " He looks away, looking for an escape of any kind as David approaches.
" And how are you three doing today? " He asks in his usual unnaturally happy tone. Max spaces off as Nikki and Neil happily tell him how happy they are to see their parents.
" Max? "
" Hm? " Max turns to face David, who looks slightly less happy.
" You okay? "
" Oh, yeah, mhm. " He looks away, thinking, which causes David to slightly worry.
He shakes it off with a smile and walks over to speak with the rest of the campers.
About 10 minutes later, the first car comes to bring home Nerris. Gwen reads her magazines as David's says goodbye to the campers as they depart.
Max sits against a tree watching the campers leave one by one.
First Nerris, then Space kid, then Neil, then Nurf, and so on.
20 minutes later, the only kid left at the camp, was Max. He stares at the ground as David talks to Gwen. David starts to get worried but stays optimistic, saying they will be here soon.
30 minutes later, he says the same thing. For two hours this goes on. Max almost feels glad that his parents are not here. David slowly walks up to him.
" Max?.. "
" ..Yeah? " He looks up to meet David's worried eyes.
" I- " Suddenly, headlights come into view making the redhead excited. " See? They are here! I knew it! " Gwen walks up to them as two figured step out of the car, making Max want to cry.
" Where's the brat? " The women calls making David's heart drop.
Max slowly stands up and walks towards the car. His dad speaks first.
" Were you the only kid here? "
" No.. you are late and everyone already left. " Max speaks softly. David's and Gewn's eyes widen as they watches the most painful thing they have ever seen. Max's dad slaps Max. Hard. He brings his hand high up in the hair and slams his hand into the side of Max's face, causing the black haired kid to fall. He winces, knowing that the sting will last a while.
" Well next time we won't come at all you ungrateful waste of air. Now, " Max's dad goes to get in the car. " Stand up and get in. "
Max goes to stand up as David gets a sudden burst of cofidence.
" No. "
Max's dad stops walking as his mom glares.
" No? "
" No! It is written in the book of rules for Camp Campbell that I cannot hand over a child to their parent if the child is being mistreated. So no. "
Gwen slowly walks over and helps Max up, who looks as if he might actually cry.
" I'm sorry Max.. " Gwen whispers, making him shed a single tear.
" He's our kid! "
" And my responsibility! " David shoots back, now fumming with anger. " You are not going to take him. " Max's dad and mom share a look before a simply getting in their car and driving off.
For a moment, no one says anything. Then soft cries are heard from Max as he sits on the ground. David looks over at Max with a worried expression before running over and hugging him. Gwen joins the hug and they sit in silence.
" I'm sorry Max. " David speaks quietly as they pull away from the hug. Max says nothing and looks at the ground, before turning and hugging David again. The redhead's eyes widen and he hugs back, softly smiling.
" Thanks... "
David nods, but says nothing back in fear that Max will let go of he says anything.
" David.. " Gwen scratches her arm and gives the counselor a look of worry. David looks at her. " What are we going to do? "
Max lets go, and wipes some tears away. " Put me in a foster home.."
" No. "
Max gives David a confused expression, tears flood his vision.
" No? "
" No. "
" David, what else is there to do? " Gwen raises an eyebrow.
" I'll adopt Max. "
" What? " Max's eyes widen and David smiles at him.
" I'll adopt you. "
" Really?.. "
" Really. " Gwen smiles as Max hugs David again.
" Thank you! " He cries, afraid to let go.
" It's no problem Max. " David smile.
Max feels himself choke on tears as David stands up, picking Max up as well.
Keeping one arm ahold of the small boy, David opens the car door and carefully sets Max inside. He walks to the driver's side and looks out at Gwen. She smiles whole-heartly as he gives her a ' Are you coming or what? ' look, and walks over, getting in the passengers side.
The three sit in silence as David drives them all away from the camp that Max could and would call home.

(( Hey I hope you liked this part! I tried :/ ))
