Chapter 3
The scene is at the center of the living room of the condo unit. This condo unit was renewed after Remus Cantrelle was caught by the State Police. It was like nothing happened after the event. The textile floor is well-polished, the couch is new, and the light bulbs were changed to blue and have brighter lights than it was before. The curtains on the window located at the end of the living room is, just straight ahead from the door, are more elegant than before it was a dull piece of cloth hanging and blocking a beautiful view of the city.
The setup was clean, no blood stains, no fingerprints to be found. Not even a single dust can be used as evidence from the crime. The bodies were frozen, each one were posed the way the killer wants them to.
“The bodies’ statures were formed before they were frozen for it was too hard to do it after. Their blood were drained, the killer don’t want to spend more of his time on freezing everyone’s body.” Dr. Kate deduced.
“He uses domestic refrigerator only.” Carl immediately said.
“How is that so?” Dr. Kate wondered.
“He drained their blood; their body will not be a good “model” if the meat will rot. He had to double his time because the freezing process will be the one which will drain his time. It will took him 4 -5 hours to totally freeze a meat with a skin still attached, specifically for human beings. And for a domestic refrigerator, the maximum temperature is only 40 degrees Fahrenheit, which causes him to use more refrigerators.” Carl explained.
“These entire bodies can fit to his refrigerator, but only one at a time. Their diagonal height almost matches each other, so the artist here used same fridges unit. He picked each of them practically in order to fit them in his fridge. Observing at their hardness, it seems that they were all frozen at the same time that is why he needed 6 for all of them. Get a water sample inside their skin Dr. Kate.” He added.
‘Wait, isn’t this how we looked like when we busted the shit out of Remus’ ass? Looks like our killer here is proud and wanted to get busted right away.’ said John. ‘And the fact that he uses our Greenwich Hannibal case situation will get us closer to him.”
“He can’t be one of our men whom this other victims here portrayed at the original scene because all of them are gone. But he has the access to our files, so he may be one of our colleagues.” said Carl. “Give me the profiles of those who have the access to our files John, including the people who are involved in Remus’ case.”
“Oh and one thing John, do not tell others but us.” said Carl as John about to leave. “I think Officer Stan can help you.”
“Officer Reily, would you mind to gather all the staff at our office? Ask a question to them one by one and get the login records of who rented this condo?” Carl commanded.
“Got it sir.”
As Carl turns to look at the crime scene once again he noticed something. He takes a step back and into the right corner of the room, as he looks at the bodies, he saw the shadows of the victims formed a triangle with an eye-shaped figure that was formed by the light.
I’ve seen this before.Carl wonders where he saw that symbol. I know I’ve seen it somewhere else where it is in someone I knew, someone I’ve been to, or maybe I was unconscious. Or was it just a dream? His mind tries to recall all of his cases if there by any chance would make him remember that symbol, but he fails to.
Later that night, Carl surfs the internet to find meanings about the triangle with an eye inside it. There are so many results that he can’t even find a close answer to his case. Some articles say it is a cult’s symbol, some says it is religious. But as he tried to look at the image search, one picture catches his attention, a picture of a black triangle with a sun-like thing above it. Still, he doesn’t have a clue what it means. Carl saved the image and went to bed.
A phone ring woke Carl up 8:00 in the morning.
‘Hello?’
‘I’ve examined the water sample from the bodies last night, come over here quickly.’ Kate said lively.
‘Great, I’ll be there in a minute.’
Carl went to the Connecticut State Hospital. Meanwhile, John finished collecting the profiles of the people involved in the case, profiles of the police officers that died, including their relatives and relatives of the victims of Remus. He and his other trustworthy colleague, Jeffrey Stan, who worked with them on their second case, examine the profiles dust by dust.
‘Relatives of the victims of Remus aren’t here in our state John, currently and by residence. I’ve traced every hotel, motel, apartment, house and other room rentals that can accommodate a person who can do this shit, and no one here has rented rooms.’
‘And the relatives of these cops?’ asked John.
‘That, we need to know.’
‘Carl said that the diagonal height of the victims is the same to each other.’
‘So the killer picked them by their size and that makes it useless to profile the victims for the lead huh?’ said Jeffrey. ‘By the way, why did Carl focus on the fridges?’
‘That, we need to know also, on your feet soldier. We have some Da Vinci to pursue.’
On their way, John received a call from his mother. A mail came to their mailbox this morning, but it is sent for Carl.
‘Mom! Do not touch it again okay? I’ll get there as fast as I can, stay away from there.’ said John worriedly, with his face seems to turn red.
