First off, the information about Pennhurst State School and Hospital stated in this story, is not entirely correct. I know a ton of random shit about the state asylums from the 1900's-ish, however, I changed some of the information to make it better fit my story. Pennhurst did not close because of a fire, it closed because of the horrible living conditions and abuse being inflicted on the patients (if you want to know more about that, there is a documentary on YouTube called "Suffer the Little Children". It was created to inform the public about the reality of the conditions in the asylum.) It was even, at one point, called the "Shame of Pennsylvania". Moreover, I couldn't find a full map of where the different buildings were located, or what each individual one was used for, so I made a massive, extremely educated guess, using a satellite image and wikipedia information, to create a map of it for the story.
The last thing I wish to inform everyone reading of, is the inspiration I had for this story (its not some inspirational, "I woke up one day and knew this was my calling" bullshit, so don't worry). Essentially, I was forced to write it, I had the majority of the creative control, but I didn't necessarily choose the idea either. My main friend group decided that we were going to do a thing we decided to call "Friendfictions". Basically, it all stemmed off a conversation Melina, Samantha, Emily, and I had about the fact that there are a ton of rumors that different members of our group are gay for each other. We, then, decided that we were going write fanfiction about eachother, and read it out loud at our next sleepover. So, we spent the next 2 hours finding all the different possible pairings within the group and coming up with prompts to base our stories off of. When we finished, we all drew 3 cards, 2 pairings and a prompt. I got Zoey and Sami, and Sam and Emily, (Sami and Sam are, in fact, two different people. No awkward love triangle here, Sorry drama queens.) The prompt I got was, you guessed it, "Asylum". So I came up with a slightly dark and depressing idea, and went with it. The brain vomit your about to read, is my FriendFiction. Enjoy. Or don't. That's up to you.
