Bug hummed quizzically at what Alex had said. Alex went silent, trying to find out how to word his thoughts.
"You... said you... um..." He felt his palms start to sweat. God dammit, he thought, why am I such a pussy when it comes to shit like this? He took a deep breath as Bug asked if he was alright.
"Yeah, I'm fine... uh... anyways... you said you... wait, no..." Alex trailed off a little. Bug whined a little before Alex continued.
"When you were hanging up, you... said you love me...?" Alex's heart fluttered at the thought of Bug actually loving him. A smile crossed his face as the words 'you love me' awkwardly fell from the tip of his tongue into the air. Bug went silent for a few seconds before speaking meekly.
"I didn't mean it, Alex. I was just tired... sorry." With that, Bug shyly hung up, leaving Alex to sit in a bubble of disbelief and betrayal as tears streaked his pale face.
