I couldn't believe this is happening, I didn't believe this was happening. I stood on one side of the table, between the two opponents. The crowd was larger now, wondering who would get the 'grand prize'. I'm glad for the hood over my face or the crowd would see the fear in my eyes right now.
I can- no wait, will - because my master is easily fooled- be turned over to this stranger who I don't even know what he looks like. I have no faith in Master Zorun winning this.
I didn't understand the game they were playing but it seemed something to do with cards and coins. The hooded figure didn't make many movements then moving the cards and coins. He was very still, in fact, like he was being patient. On the other hand, Master Zorun was fidgeting in his chair and red faced as ones blood. This went on about for a long time, and honestly, I didn't bother trying to figure out what they were playing because I didn't want to know when one is doomed to fail and the other victorious.
"No impossible!" Screamed Master Zorun as his opponent showed him his set of cards and collected all his coins.
"Checkmate." The opponent snickered. Well I guess I'll be going to serve for a new Master now.
Master Zorun leaped from his chair in attempt to grab me but the hooded figure was already behind me, his hand on my shoulder. Master Zorun cupped my face harshly.
"Remember what I said before I came into this club." He gasped. Rage boiled inside me.
"You gambled me over to a stranger and this is what you ask of me?" I spat. He has no right to deserve such a dream, I'll let him have his worst nightmare tonight. I can't believe he didn't say, "this is our goodbye," or something more decent than what he just said. Then again, it is Mast-, Zorun, I would never expect a 'thank you'.
The hooded figure spoke behind me.
"Now that this is settled, I will be taking my leave with this woman. Thank you for such a beautiful game and prize." The man said. For some reason, I didn't feel anything when Zorun reached out and cup my face again and I stared at him blankly.
"Please..." he whispered, almost begging.
I leaned into his ear and whispered softly for only the two of us to hear.
"Have fun and sweet dreams." I chuckled a bit before commanding, "sleep." I leaned back and already Zorun started to feel a bit dizzy.
The hand on my shoulder tugged and I turned around to face my new master. I bowed politely. He chuckled and walked out the door, me trailing behind him. I felt Zorun go unconscious inside the club.
We made it outside and the cold air filled my lungs, to my delight. My new master walked away, not bothering to stop. He walked in the shadows, and I couldn't even see him with his dark cloak and the night sky. It's like he just turned invisible. I had to wait for him to chuckle every now again to follow the direction he was going.
On the outskirts of the town, my master finally moved out of the shadows and into the moonlight. I walked up behind him. He turned around and looked down to face me. I was a tall woman, towering over many other people, but my master was a foot taller than me.
"What's your name pretty face?" He asked. How can he say I'm pretty if he can't see my face?
"Yuneasia, Yuneasia Blanc, master." I bowed.
"No need to bow. Why does a lady like you had a master like Zorun?" He asked.
"Because I didn't have anywhere to go." I said. It was true, I didn't have anywhere to go to if I would successfully escape Zorun. I was never going to go back Lonell.
"Very well, Yuneasia, the name's Acelin." He held out his hand.
I shook his hand and we walked into the forest. I noticed that he was silent while walking, he didn't make any sounds while I was creating noise walking on the dirt. He was like a shadow. The moon was bright tonight, illuminating the path as we walked along it. Master Acelin's footsteps were heard when he walked out of the shadows and into the moonlight. After a while, I felt consciouses ahead. I slowed. Master Acelin turned around.
"What's wrong?" He asked. I looked over his shoulder.
"I sense people ahead." I said.
"Of course, we're going to my camp." He chuckled. I nodded. "Stop looking so serious." He said.
"How can you-" I was saying but stopped when he turned around and continued walking while laughing. How can he see my face when my hood is covering it?
Then it hit me. He blended into the shadows to the point you couldn't even see him, he can walk silently in the shadows and he can see my face when it's covered in shadows.
I ran up to him. "You're a shadow magician?"
He did his chuckle again. "You're the fastest person to figure that out."
"The signs were all there." I looked up to him and smiled.
We continued walking towards his camp and something shiny sparkled at the corner of my eyes. When I turned to look at it, I couldn't find it anymore. I decided not to think about it as we entered the camp.
